For instance, Lyft recently expanded its engineering team, hiring its first head of software development. This is why Lyft is starting to hire employees directly out of high school, says Craig Walker, vice president of engineering for Lyft. “If I hire somebody who’s 18 and the biggest reason they applied for this job is that their favorite movie was The Social Network, then that’s a good reason to hire them,” Walker says. Facebook isn’t the only tech company to launch accelerator programs aimed at startups. Twitter also has a similar initiative to help startups hire engineers. Baltimore also has startups trying to solve real-world problems with the help of these kinds of programs, as well. For instance, Citymapper is building a transportation service that works with other companies. The startup will use its $15,000 grant to hire two more engineers, just for the summer. ## Publication Information - [golfforfun78](https://paragraph.com/@golfforfun78/): Publication homepage - [All Posts](https://paragraph.com/@golfforfun78/): More posts from this publication - [RSS Feed](https://api.paragraph.com/blogs/rss/@golfforfun78): Subscribe to updates - [Twitter](https://twitter.com/golfforfun78): Follow on Twitter
