# Optimism...héroe con capa

Antes de hablar de **Optimism** y su surgimiento, vamos a retroceder en el tiempo para entender su por qué. Vayamos entonces al origen de **Ethereum**. Si bien es cierto que todo comenzó con **Bitcoin** siendo el pionero y demostrando que era posible tener una moneda digital basada en criptografía y poder hacer transacciones descentralizadas, muy pronto la tecnología, su concepto y filosofía trascendieron. Entonces, un visionario como lo es **_Vitalik Buterin_** decidió ir más allá del hecho de hacer solo transacciones financieras, e introdujo el concepto de los **contratos inteligentes**. Estos son los que hoy por hoy dan origen a las dApps, que automatizan acuerdos, que gestionan activos digitales. Todo eso es gracias a ese chico genio.

**¿Cómo lo hizo?** Construyó una nueva cadena de bloques que lo cambiaría todo a futuro. Así nació **Ethereum**. Ahora no se trataría solo de una moneda, sino también de un terreno fértil en el que los desarrolladores pudiesen construir todo tipo de aplicaciones confiables y transparentes según las bondades de la tecnología blockchain.

Por supuesto, muy pronto **Ethereum** ganó popularidad. No en vano su token nativo **_(Ether)_** es la segunda criptomoneda de mayor capitalización de mercado. Pero con esa desbordada adopción vinieron entonces algunos desafíos. La red principal de **Ethereum** comenzó a enfrentar problemas de **escalabilidad**, tarifas muy elevadas e incluso congestión en la red. _¿Les suena que las comisiones en Ethereum son carísimas? Sí, ¿verdad?_ En este punto es donde entran en juego redes como **Optimism**. **Optimism** es una **solución de capa 2** para dar alivio a la red. Se basa en la técnica de **rollups optimistas**, que procesa transacciones de manera eficiente en una cadena lateral antes de consolidarlas en la cadena principal. De esta manera, **Optimism** logra reducir costos, aumentar la velocidad y aliviar la presión sobre **Ethereum**.

Si se preguntan el por qué de la estabilidad, bastaría con echarle un ojo al ecosistema cripto en general para ser testigos de una popularidad innegable que sigue ganando adeptos, rumbo a la adopción que todos anhelamos. Las criptomonedas per se, la aparición de los NFTs, los juegos Web3, incluso las mencionadas memecoins, todo ello ha catalizado la creación de innumerables (dApps), DeFi, intercambios, más juegos, y un largo etcétera de soluciones descentralizadas que finalmente han sacado a la luz o dejado en evidencia los cuellos de botella dentro de las infraestructuras blockchain.

**Ethereum** se ha enfrentado desde sus inicios a problemas de asequibilidad, escalabilidad y accesibilidad. Incluso soluciones de capa uno como **Solana** también han tenido muchas dificultades para procesar eficientemente el enorme volumen de transacciones de sus usuarios. Por eso siempre escuchamos _"Solana está caída"_. Y nuevamente salen al ruedo las **soluciones de capa 2**, en proyectos como **Optimism**.

**Optimism es entonces un héroe con capa**, es una red de capa dos diseñada precisamente para mejorar la escalabilidad de **Ethereum**. Lo hace según el principio de acumulaciones optimistas, que procesan de manera eficiente las transacciones en lotes, reduciendo así los costos y aumentando la velocidad.

Lo que **Ether (ETH)** es a **Ethereum**, **OP** es a **Optimism**, es decir, **el token de gobernanza** nativo de la red. Por tanto, desempeña un papel crucial en la dirección y operación del ecosistema, ya que los holders o tenedores de tokens **OP** pueden participar en la toma de decisiones. Los tenedores de **OP** tienen derechos de voto sobre propuestas y cambios en la red, lo que garantiza que la comunidad tenga voz en el desarrollo y la gobernanza de la plataforma. Además, contribuyen a decisiones importantes relacionadas con actualizaciones de software y financiación de bienes públicos.

Before talking about **Optimism** and its emergence, let's go back in time to understand its why. Let's then go to the origin of **Ethereum**. While it's true that it all began with Bitcoin being the pioneer and demonstrating that it was possible to have a digital currency based on cryptography and to make decentralized transactions, very soon the technology, its concept, and philosophy transcended. Then, a visionary like **_Vitalik Buterin_** decided to go beyond the fact of only making financial transactions, and introduced the concept of **smart contracts**. These are what give rise to dApps today, automate agreements and manage digital assets. All thanks to that genius guy.

**How did he do it?** He built a new blockchain that would change everything in the future. Thus, Ethereum was born. Now it wouldn't be just a digital currency, but also a fertile ground where developers could build all kinds of reliable and transparent applications according to the benefits of blockchain technology.

Of course, **Ethereum** soon gained popularity. Not in vain, its native token **(Ether)** is the second cryptocurrency by market capitalization. But with that overflowing adoption came some challenges. The main **Ethereum** network began to face scalability issues, very high fees, and even congestion on the network. _Does it sound familiar that fees on Ethereum are extremely high? Yes, right?_ At this point is where networks like **Optimism** come into play. **Optimism is a layer 2 solution** to provide relief to the network. It is based on the technique of optimistic rollups, which efficiently processes transactions on a side chain before consolidating them on the main chain. In this way, **Optimism** manages to reduce costs, increase speed, and alleviate pressure on **Ethereum.**

If you wonder why stability, just take a look at the crypto ecosystem in general to witness an undeniable popularity that continues to gain followers, heading towards the adoption we all crave. Cryptocurrencies per se, the emergence of NFTs, Web3 games, even the mentioned memecoins, all this has catalyzed the creation of countless dApps, DeFi, exchanges, more games, and a long etcetera of decentralized solutions that have finally brought to light or exposed the bottlenecks within blockchain infrastructures.

**Ethereum** has faced from its beginnings problems of affordability, scalability, and accessibility. Even layer one solutions like **Solana** have also had many difficulties in efficiently processing the enormous volume of transactions from its users. That's why we always hear _"Solana is down"_. And once again, layer 2 solutions come into play, in projects like **Optimism**.

**Optimism** is then a hero with a cape, **it is a layer two network** designed precisely to improve **Ethereum's scalability**. It does so according to the principle of optimistic accumulations, which efficiently process transactions in batches, thus reducing costs and increasing speed.

What **Ether (ETH)** is to **Ethereum**, **OP** is to **Optimism**, that is, the native **governance token** of the network. Therefore, it plays a crucial role in the direction and operation of the ecosystem, since **OP** token holders can participate in decision-making. **OP holders** have voting rights on proposals and changes in the network, ensuring that the community has a voice in the development and governance of the platform. Additionally, they contribute to important decisions related to software updates and funding for public goods.
