A heartening reality, however, is that the developers who have been frustrated by what they perceive to be challenges by the policy have not been the one’s who have been killed by it. That is, after all, one of the central reasons behind the rejection of violent doctrines. It is far more likely to be a peaceful spirit which persuades those at the policy’s margins to adopt an equally peaceful vision. Not surprisingly, this is the subject of much of Kevin Dutton’s latest book, Not a Killer.

There are some who do not approve of the policy or its results, of course. One of them is the late Gabriel Davison, who became famous for posting a video on YouTube in which he invites the public to bash him in the head with any object which he has on hand.

One of his supporters says:

I would like to begin by thanking Minister Neville for my enemies’ suffering. That he did not kill me on my second appearance was not his fault; I did not walk him through the soft trap which was to ask him to. You can see the result here – the display on YouTube gives you more context.

In another video, Davison asks his supporters to keep an eye out for anyone who has the nerve to leave a comment on his YouTube channel.

“Get your lazer and get on to them,” he says. “That’s how I did it in Hong Kong.”

By contrast, those who follow in his footsteps with an open heart to a peace-seeking agenda have been overwhelmingly positive about the program’s goals.
