Ethereum (ETH) is a public, open-source blockchain-based smart contract-functionalized platform that facilitates an online contract that mimics real traditional contracts while providing an element of security and trust. Ethereum was proposed in late 2013 by Russian-Canadian programmer Vitalik Buterin. Its development was funded by Internet audiences during July-August 2014. The platform went live on July 30, 2015.
