区块空间是区块链上可以运行代码和存储数据的空间。与传统计算空间的不同之处在于，在区块链出现之前，软件总是服从于硬件，最终服从于硬件的所有者。如 Meta 公司控制着运行 Facebook 的硬件，所以它最终控制着 Facebook。 区块链的构建方式是不同的：利用共识机制，实现软件「负责」硬件。 区块链创业者通过编写软件代码，对产品未来的行为做出强有力的承诺。
