# Nemesis the Death Star?

The word ‘Nemesis’ derives from the Greek ‘nemein’ which translates to ‘retribution,’ for which the Ancient Greek goddess ‘Nemesis’ was named.

Retribution was the punishment for the sin of abounding arrogance--excessive pride. And one could say that pride is the hallmark of a scientist that claims to be an expert. An expert who claims dominion over the pursuit of truth and free inquiry.

There have been some interesting developments surrounding the possibility that our solar system may have originated as a $BINARY star system. Meanwhile, wiki sites like [solarsystem.fandom.com](http://solarsystem.fandom.com) declaratively claim that the existence of Nemesis has been disproven.

In the past few years, our truth-acquisition apparatus has shown itself to be a _reliable_ _contraindicator_ of truth. Case in point: NBC News\--an establishment outlet--reported in 2011 that the ‘Death Star \[has been\] debunked ([https://www.nbcnews.com/science/cosmic-log/death-star-debunked-flna6c10402961](https://www.nbcnews.com/science/cosmic-log/death-star-debunked-flna6c10402961)).
If we use the simple heuristic that the establishment is _reliably_ _incorrect_ on many matters of import, then this lends credence to our interest in learning more about Nemesis.

Furthermore, some contemporary scientists have proposed novel hypotheses around our solar system’s potential origins as a $BINARY system. You can read the arXiv link here: [https://arxiv.org/abs/1705.00049](https://arxiv.org/abs/1705.00049).
Even as recently as 2017, there have been fascinating advancements in our understanding of how stars are born: [https://news.berkeley.edu/2017/06/13/new-evidence-that-all-stars-are-born-in-pairs/](https://news.berkeley.edu/2017/06/13/new-evidence-that-all-stars-are-born-in-pairs/)

Richard Muller presents his argument for the Nemesis hypothesis in his book ‘Nemesis: The Death Star,’ pointing out that “_\[…\]scientists often don't have time to read the literature, so they depend on the summaries of others._”
Simply put, this matter isn’t settled; there is no terminus in the state of knowledge.
