# INTERESTING VS. IMPORTANT (WORK)

i think if you think something is "interesting" that is a good enough reason to work on it

even if it does not seem important, just being interesting i think is enough

i think people working on things they are interested in can lead to them working on something they are interested in that is actually important, often in unpredictable ways

but even if the interesting work never leads to important work i think a world in which lots of people are working on things that they are interested in is a better world than the alternative

plus, depending on your perspective, it arguable that everything is important, or to the contrary, that nothing is

i am just formulating this perspective now as it just occurred to me

[$QR](https://x.com/search?q=%24QR&src=cashtag_click) for example is not that important in the scheme of things, but it is genuinely interesting to me

it has been enjoyable and challenging working on it

i hope it leads me to doing work that i feel is more important

but if not, at least i am getting to work on something i find interesting

better than uninteresting and unimportant
