The first event I attended this year was in April, a Bitget event in Abuja. It leaned more toward marketing than education, but it was still interesting to see how people responded to the buzz around crypto. A few weeks later, I joined the Avalanche Campus Tour, which had a completely different energy. This one was focused on education and onboarding, especially for newbies. The atmosphere was fresh, exciting, and relatable—you could feel the curiosity in the room as people asked questions, s...

David’s introduction to the crypto space came in an unusual way, through a referral-based Ethereum scheme called “Ethereum Million Money” back in 2017. While short-lived and ultimately structured like a pyramid scheme, the experience planted a seed of curiosity. His real turning point came later, when a friend needed to receive money from abroad. Watching crypto enable a fast, fee-less transfer showed David its real-world potential and pulled him deeper into Web3.
The concept for Play to Learn emerged during a long university strike while David and his co-founder, Crypto Pidgin, were building a content creation brand. During a Web3 event, they noticed how many attendees, especially beginners — seemed bored and disconnected during the overly technical talks. That moment revealed a gap: people needed a fun, relatable, and engaging way to understand crypto.
Inspired by popular board and card games like Ludo and UNO, David and PJ decided to gamify crypto education. The goal was simple: make learning about blockchain as fun as playing a game with friends.
At its core, Play to Learn designs physical card games that break down complex crypto concepts into easy, digestible pieces. These games don’t require an internet connection, making them accessible to offline communities while also fostering a spirit of face-to-face competition and collaboration.
Since its inception, Play to Learn has created over eight unique crypto-based games, including custom editions for major blockchain brands and exchanges like OKX, LBank, and Arbitrum. They’ve also become a fixture at in-person Web3 events, where their games energize crowds, spark conversations, and make onboarding feel natural rather than intimidating.
The co-hosts of the X Space Kosbaar and Gneric — highlighted how Play to Learn makes learning stick. By gamifying education, David’s team has found a way to bridge the gap between curiosity and comprehension, helping not only newcomers but also seasoned Web3 participants sharpen their knowledge in a playful way.
