Spotlighting African Builders EP11: David & Gamifying Crypto Education with Play to Learn
David’s Entry into Web3David’s introduction to the crypto space came in an unusual way, through a referral-based Ethereum scheme called “Ethereum Million Money” back in 2017. Watching crypto enable a fast, fee-less transfer showed David its real-world potential and pulled him deeper into Web3.The Sp...

The Missing Link to Blockchain Adoption
The first event I attended this year was in April, a Bitget event in Abuja. It leaned more toward marketing than education, but it was still interesting to see how people responded to the buzz around crypto. A few weeks later, I joined the Avalanche Campus Tour, which had a completely different energy. This one was focused on education and onboarding, especially for newbies. The atmosphere was fresh, exciting, and relatable—you could feel the curiosity in the room as people asked questions, s...

In Episode 4 of SAB, we had the absolute pleasure of spotlighting a true visionary, a poet, rapper, and web3 builder who is creating an entire universe for African creatives through her platform, Planet Lukukul (@toplanetlukukul)on X. What started as a seed of creativity is now a bold, immersive movement. Here’s a closer look at the woman behind it all, and why she deserves nothing less than REESPECT with a double E.
Who Is She?
Reespect is a poet turned rapper, forged in the fires of the hip-hop community and now redefining how African creativity is recognized and scaled globally. Her creative journey began in secondary school through poetry, but it was during her university days that things truly came into focus. She saw how poetry and rap were not just expressions — they were bridges to something much bigger. In 2023, she made a bold choice: to go fully independent as an artist. That decision was amplified by her breakout web3-powered project, “The Great Silence.
Becoming a Web3-Savvy Baddie
Late 2022 marked a turning point. She discovered crypto, immersed herself in learning from Web1 to Web3, and began to see technology not just as tools but as mirrors reflecting human potential. This awakening inspired Planet Lukukul: a law-driven, digital playground rooted in creativity, freedom, and self-expression. “It’s like early Marvel but for African creatives.” Planet Lukukul is more than just a platform. It’s a creative IP company fusing African soul, web3 DNA, and real-world cultural relevance where stories, systems, and stars are born. Even the name is intentional: “Lukukul” sounds both African and futuristic, and it spells the same forward and backward “Look who’s cool.”
From Five to Thirty Creators — and Growing
Planet Lukukul began with just five creators during the period known as The Great Silence. Today, it has grown into a thriving ecosystem of over 30+ multidisciplinary creatives, including: Animators Designers Lore builders Each contributor helps shape a shared seasonal lore, with stackable story arcs that evolve and expand with each phase. One standout element? The Buddy System, a structure that emphasizes collaboration, mutual support, and genuine community-building. Planet Lukukul is driven by three key forces: emotion, imagination, and intention. It was born from both pain and hope, a direct response to the frustration of being labeled “too creative” or silenced for daring to dream. It’s a world that balances reality and imagination, where every voice matters and everything feels possible.
Looking Ahead: Scaling With Intention
The vision is bold: to serve as a launchpad for 5 million African creatives by 2030. And the plan to get there? As dynamic as the creatives it supports: Leveraging evolving web3 technologies IRL activations and pop-up experiences Global outreach and fundraising Diverse revenue models to empower artists The soon-to-launch “Outta State Pod” is a major next step, an initiative designed to amplify creators from across and beyond Africa.
Leading With Heart
Though she’s the founder, her leadership is refreshingly decentralized. She values community input, shared ownership, and adaptability to tech's ever-changing landscape, while staying rooted in seasonal structure and long-term goals. Creatives don’t work for her. They work with her
She manages conflict with grace, checking intentions, trusting her team, and staying ready for the unexpected. She’s not just building a platform. She’s building a world, a vibrant, intentional, and imaginative space where African creatives can truly dream, build, and be respected. Give her the double E. Give her the REESPECT.
