# Emerging Tech, Emerging Business Models

I was playing around with ChatGPT yesterday and started to wonder to myself “when are these guys going to start charging for this?

Subsequently, I saw a Twitter post saying that OpenAI, the org behind ChatGPT, is going to take a 10% equity stake in certain companies to give them access to ChatGPTv4, which is the next version of the AI and which has learned from v3.

In effect, it becomes an AI superweapon that is a competitive advantage for some companies over others.

That’s how OpenAI will monetize.

They’ll give away the old version for free, use that to improve the next version, and monetize via equity by basically being AI “arms dealers.”

I could easily see OpenAI using social tokens, possibly powered by [Unlock Protocol](https://unlock-protocol.com/) or badges on [Radix](https://www.radixdlt.com), for example, to gate access to v4 based on membership.

There are going to be a lot of new business models coming out over the next few years, in the same way that Web2 emerged with a few new ones that were previously impossible in a Web1 or pre-Web era.

Business models are the true disruptors of previous epochs.
