# Falling into Trust

You’ve probably done it or at least seen it.

Those “exercises” where you stand in the middle of a circle with your eyes closed and then fall back, hoping and expecting to be caught by your colleagues.

Of course, there’s real fear in that moment. And it’s understandable.

It feels to me that letting go of the “self” of the “ego” is a similar experience.

The overwhelming odds are that the things which surround you, call it your “true self” or, perhaps better, your “original mind” or “uncarved block” (depending on your philosophical leanings) will catch you.

But…there’s the chance it won’t.

Then, what happens.

It’s going to hurt, for sure. But will there really be serious, life altering injury or death?

Probably not.

It’ll be traumatic, certainly, but you’ll have clarity about reality.

And that’s what the point of the exercise is.

As Matisyahu sings in [“King without a crown”](https://open.spotify.com/intl-es/track/3NkIfsiFHnljGrlXSD2AJ3?si=1e4baa2796f84dbf)

> “Strip away the layers to reveal your soul.”

That’s the path to wisdom.

Letting go of all of the sediment that has built up over the years. Removing the sediment. Cleaning away the debris. Abandoning the disappointment of unmet expectations.

And yes, it’s terrifying.
