If “it” had any type of profound impact, then “it” deserves a thoughtful response…and a thoughtful question. And if “it” wasn’t profound, you’re going to get a lazy response: “fine.” Either way, an opportunity is missed to learn something…and help your conversation partner learn something as well. Peel it back: “what surprised you most about the experience?” “what was the biggest takeaway from the experience? “what expectations were met or left unmet?” and there are 1000s of others. ChatGPT can help. But one-level deeper questions afford the opportunity to, much more quickly, uncover the value…and show you care. One of the things I took away from The Hidden Story of Every Person was that we all ask ourselves deep, existential questions…very frequently. But getting the answers requires help from those whom we choose to surround ourselves with.
