# Innovation Timeframes

Where are we with the cycle of Web3 innovation?

The answer depends a lot on the person with whom you are speaking.

The long-time insiders seem to have reached a conclusion that Bitcoin will dominate the store-of-value market and Ethereum has too much staying power.

They may be right.

But I look at the world of people NOT in crypto.

I think about how far removed they are from the powers of Web3 and I see the barriers to usage.

For example, I can only publish this blog from computers that have the private key for this particular Ethereum account.

And, for security reasons, I don’t have it on every computer.

As a student of history, I just keep reminding myself of the distance between innovation and adoption.

The one I use most frequently is powered flight.

The Wright Brothers succeeded in 1903, but it wasn’t until 40 years later that the commercial jet aviation innovation crossed the chasm.

I don’t believe that Web3 is quite ready to make that cross, despite everyone’s wish that it will soon.

Which is why I have confidence that [Radix](https://www.radixdlt.com) has a shot, at least.

And [this](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5iSK3rTjPMw) is why.
