# It's Going to Take a Decade

The co-CIO of Pantera, Joey Krug, wrote a money line in the annual [Blockchain letter.](https://panteracapital.com/blockchain-letter/the-year-ahead/)

> Looking forward, I think it seems fairly evident that the historical arc of the world’s financial rails will end up as blockchain-based systems using smart contracts

I think that elegantly sums up the divide between those who “get it” and those who don’t.

You either realize that’s the arc or you don’t.

And I’m now at the point where if you don’t realize that’s the arc, I don’t have time for you and I feel a bit sorry for you.

But that’s an aside.

That arc which Krug describes is long.

Today, we’re in the dial-up era of crypto. Everyone is trying to make the modems faster and the copper wires transmit more data.

That’s great, but there’s going to be fiber.

And beyond that, there’s going to be Starlink.

You can guess which one [Radix](https://www.radixdlt.com) is. (Hint: it rhymes with “car drink.”)

But like the evolution of the Internet from dial-up to broadband to global satellite, it’s going to take time.

Enjoy the ride.
