# Optimizing for Non-Optimization **Published by:** [jer979](https://paragraph.com/@jer979-2/) **Published on:** 2025-02-28 **URL:** https://paragraph.com/@jer979-2/optimizing-for-non-optimization ## Content I really enjoy optimizing. I enjoy efficiency. I love planning. And I love it when things run smoothly because of all of the planning and optimizing I’ve done. But there’s a point of diminishing marginal returns. There’s a point where I spent so much time and effort thinking about optimizing that I miss out on the things I am ultimately optimizing for. Namely, the things that can’t be optimized. The deep breaths by a beautiful mountain lake. The joy of talking with my kids. The peace that comes at the end of a yoga practice or the insight that happens while sitting quietly in meditation or prayer. The optimization is not an end in and of itself. The optimization is to have maximum time for non-optimization. ## Publication Information - [jer979](https://paragraph.com/@jer979-2/): Publication homepage - [All Posts](https://paragraph.com/@jer979-2/): More posts from this publication - [RSS Feed](https://api.paragraph.com/blogs/rss/@jer979-2): Subscribe to updates - [Twitter](https://twitter.com/jer979): Follow on Twitter
