# Seen this Movie Before

It’s ugly in crypto land right now. As my cousin, who isn’t full-time in crypto, but is fairly knowledgeable said, “there’s no direction now. Something has to change.”

We’ve seen the first-generation of smart contract platforms (Ethereum) and we’ve seen the second-generation of smart contract platforms (Avalanche, Solana, Polkadot, Near). Neither of them have gotten beyond the proof-of-concept stage really. They aren’t production ready, either from a scalability, security, or usability perspective.

I can understand why he says we’re stuck.

Because it seems like we are.

But we’re not.

We’re still moving forward and, one day, it will all make sense.

We’ve been here before.
