# Solution Obsession

---

I feel it coming on, like a storm gathering in the summer sky.

It arises and the sensations spread through my body.

My shoulders tense up. My stomach feels hollow. The blood pressure starts to rise.

It’s a problem.

Or at least something I consider to be a problem.

Perhaps it’s an external fact. I have just driven the car over a pothole and now I hear a rattling.

Or it’s an internal perception. “Should I have said that to him?”

And an instant, I feel the gears of the rational, logical brain come online, looking for ways to immediately solve.

Turning it over in my head…and over and over and over, I get fixated.

Obsessed.

Sometimes, it seems to me, it might be wise to resist that impulse.

Not to give into the obsession.

Not ever, of course, just not immediately.

Sit with it.

Let it sink in.

Arrive fully.

Take a deep breath.

And then, perhaps a bit more clear-headed, invite the rational mind into the meeting and say “ok, now that we accept that we’re fully here, what can we do to improve the situation?”
