# The Tree **Published by:** [jer979](https://paragraph.com/@jer979-2/) **Published on:** 2025-09-02 **URL:** https://paragraph.com/@jer979-2/the-tree ## Content If the proverbial tree falls in the forest, does it make a sound? If I can “hear” it in my mind, it does. If I “hear” nothing in my mind, it does not. The question leads to an image of a tree being conjured in the mind. And the issue of sound is resolved in the mind. We think-or at least I think- of a “world” in my head and a world outside of my head. But the birds chirping, the breeze flowing, the waves crashing….those are all in my head, in my mind. Whatever I am thinking of is in my mind. And what I am not thinking of, by virtue of my non-thought about it, is also in my mind. Existence is a function of the mind. And that makes my head feel lighter and heavier at the same time. A belt tightens around a cloud. ## Publication Information - [jer979](https://paragraph.com/@jer979-2/): Publication homepage - [All Posts](https://paragraph.com/@jer979-2/): More posts from this publication - [RSS Feed](https://api.paragraph.com/blogs/rss/@jer979-2): Subscribe to updates - [Twitter](https://twitter.com/jer979): Follow on Twitter
