What do Forro, Saxophone, Cookies and NFTs have in common? Some night in October 2021, I went out with friends to a Forro dance event. Practicing Capoeira, Forro became one of those things I got into pretty quickly to acquaint myself more with Brazilian culture. And while I had stopped going to dance as frequently as I did pre-COVID, I went to see a friend who would be leaving the city; a friend I met at Forro. Enter a friend called M. You see M is a friend of Guerrera, and I train Capoeira with Guerreira. We learnt that night that M and I were neighbours in the same barrio, and she took interest to my playing the Saxophone. She mentioned she occasionally organised jam sessions with friends and invited me over to her next jam.That's Me on Sax. OK on Guitar. And ANT drumming on Cookie Case.Enter another friend called Ant. Ant was one of the people at the jam. It was a small gathering; we were about 8 in total and almost everyone including M was singing or drumming or strumming at some point - adding to the atmosphere on the terrace. After we were done playing, Ant and I struck up a conversation about how we both know M; turns out he met her in the park selling cookies. Ant and I exchanged numbers that day, and met up some days after to pick our brains about work, life, purpose and blockchain. I had let him know I recently discovered some folks called Bankless and was just getting involved in their DAO. More days passed, we kept in touch, one conversation led to another, and soon, Ant invites me to meet a friend who’s planning an NFT project - on ADA aka Cardano.Back when I thought Solidity was the only blockchain coding language that existed.Enter another another friend called Mira So boom - myself, Ant and Ant’s friend, Mira, are sat in a cafe talking about world domination with NFTs, cookies and the Kybalion. Fun times, but at this point I’m feeling way out of my depth; I didn’t know a quarter of what DeFi on Ethereum was all about, I was still finding my way around BanklessDAO, and now, find myself having to learn about another blockchain. Fun times - if it’s world domination, then it’ll be worth it. Over a few more meetings and getting to know each other some more, I resolved to learn a bit more about Cardano and Ant suggested I get a wallet and try purchasing a CNFT. Since I was then sulking about missing out on the sold out DAOpunks NFT drop, I thought it would be a good exercise learning about the dynamics of purchasing an NFT on Cardano. And Goat Tribe it was:My 1st CNFT.Enter Joey Magia Joey first wanted to make some money. But Joey got into crypto and lost some money. Then Joey wanted to learn a little more. That’s what Joey got into BanklessDAO for. Now Joey made a new friend M at Forro. So Joey got invited to a jam to play Saxophone. Joey met cool folks - cookie Ant and others he didn’t know. Ant Joey met other friends who told him about Cardano. Now Joey DAOs here, web3s and NFTs. And that’s how I got into both Ethereum and Cardano spaces. So, what do Forro, Saxophone, Cookies and NFTs have in common? An ETH-ADA crypto newbie falling into web3 rabbitholes.
