# Why Stablecoins Matter in Goma

#### 1\. Local context

In Goma, banks are not easily accessible, and the Congolese franc loses value regularly. International payments are complicated.

#### 2\. How I discovered stablecoins

I discovered USDT and in 2022 through a Web3 community `Goma Hub`. Since then, I use them to receive payments.

**3\. A real-life story**

One day, a university student from Goma asked me how to receive money from his uncle abroad. He was tired of using traditional money transfer services too slow and too expensive.

I helped him install a crypto wallet on his phone, and a few days later, he received **$150 in USDT**, directly into his wallet. He told me, `This is the first time I’ve received money so quickly and without any fees`_._

#### 4\. Why it matters

Stablecoins offer a real alternative here: stability, speed, and autonomy.
