# Goal setting

Goal Setting is a process that starts with **deciding on an objective** you wish to achieve, **developing an action plan**, and then **taking active steps to achieve the desired outcome.**

In the workplace context, it means setting goals (be in the business, team, or individual goals) for a given period (e.g. quarterly), specifying the tasks and projects to achieve the goals, and eventually working on them to achieve the business outcomes.

Goal Setting enables you to **aim for better results and achieve outcomes more effectively**. It helps us **align work expectations** with our direct reporting managers, **tighten the linkage between the broader company and our goals** to better see purpose and meaning in our work, and **motivates us to carry out our goals and achieve them.**

Goal setting provides a mechanism for **transparent conversations** with your direct reporting manager on the **objectives, and priorities** as well as how these inform your day-to-day work.
