# Evolution of Web3 Gaming **Published by:** [Kema](https://paragraph.com/@kema/) **Published on:** 2023-01-10 **URL:** https://paragraph.com/@kema/evolution-of-web3-gaming ## Content One of the earliest concepts I encountered was play-to-earn, which later was proved unsustainable. One of the reasons is all of your potential earnings are limited by the game developers. Grinding into that would need enormous time investments. Axie Infinity is an unfortunate explorer. The next thing we knew, it evolved to play-and-earn, which sounds delightful and enjoyable. Players are supposed to play and make some extra cash while having fun. Did not work as expected either. Now we experienced a free-to-own concept, where the project team drops limited NFT for free to early community members, and this move boosts the project’s value on the secondary market. The closest example is Digidaigaku collectibles, 2022 NFTs were minted for free. Seems like the ecosystem is evolving and we are yet to see lots of new ideas disrupting the space. Web3 gaming is here to stay. I am excited to see how it evolves into something completely different, yet unknown. ## Publication Information - [Kema](https://paragraph.com/@kema/): Publication homepage - [All Posts](https://paragraph.com/@kema/): More posts from this publication - [RSS Feed](https://api.paragraph.com/blogs/rss/@kema): Subscribe to updates
