It was quite good. Quite good indeed. So I wanted to practice sharing my thoughts here. The ArcAfter surviving the upper 3 and saving everyone on the train, the main quad are recovering. The 3 demon slayers are training after feeling useless. After Tanjiro has a quick encounter with the old flame Hashira they are whisked away by the **flashy **Hashira Tengen Uzui. There’s a bad demon lurking in the Entertainment District and Uzui’s 3 wives (sure why not…) disappeared in their search. The young demon slayer trio need to infiltrate the 3 houses to find them and the demon. They disguise themselves as women, some small shenagins ensue, Zenitsu gets captured, and the demon reveals themselves to Tanjiro. * THE FIGHT HAPPENS, IT BUILDS, AND DOESN’T STOP * It’s litThe FightingThe initial fight with Tanjiro starts laying out the ground work for the fight and growth. Tanjiro recognizes he can fight an upper 6 and not to be afraid. He learns he can’t just attack with water style. He starts using Sun Breathing. We also start seeing the demon’s belt powers and, as all powerful demons seem to do, her ability to make it hard to cut her head off. Eventually, Nezuko comes out and shows she is more powerful and her blood are is specifically anti-demon. She kicks the shit out of the upper 6 and starts acting more demon like. Tanjiro has to contain her so she doesn’t kill a person. At the same time the other characters deal with the underground belt and the hoard of fresh people to eat. (really just a way to let Tanjiro get some 1:1 time). Zenitsu is asleep now too so he’s stronger and not whiney. Now Uzui shows up and cuts of the upper 6’s head instantly. Easy. Too easy. Surprise, there’s a stronger demon in that demon. And he’s the stronger brother. And you got to kill both. And he has some poison (that is cool but also ultimately doesn’t mean much). Then the other 2 demon slayers show up and it’s a 4 v 2. Fighting happens and it doesn’t stop. The demon brother is a tough opponent. There’s some anti-demon poison. Tanjiro combine water and sun to blend to his strengths. It’s all getting overwhelming. Tanjiro teams up with Zenitsu and Inosuke to behead the demon sister. Things are looking good. Nope. Inosuke is stabbed by the brother. Uzui is down without an arm. There’s a big attack. The demon brother is making fun of Tanjiro now and offers to spare him and Nezuko is he becomes a demon. He runs away. Finds his inner strength and anti-demon poison. He nearly beheads the demon. But nope doesn’t quite work. BUT WAIT. EVERYONE ISN’T DEAD. They’ve been waiting for an opening and it all works out. BIG EXPLOSION AFTER the demons are defeated and the town is in rouble. 20 seconds of music and the episode is over. (end the season here you cowards). It’s all ok though be in the next episode Nezuko uses her blood art to cancel poison and everything is ok. There’s a bit about the demon brother and sister’s sad story. They’re hatred to people is the fact they had nothing and everyone was assholes to them. Showed an old strong upper 6 demon 👀. Also get a note that this is the first upper demon killed in forever and that Mizan is related to a dying Kagaya.ThoughtsI think Demon Slayer is a superb Shonen. Seriously, it is execution is flawless. Does a fantastic job making all the classic power jumps feel earned. So far, nothing has felt crazy new, just crazy good. This arc continued that trend. The character powers and moments felt earned. The fight was amazing. The tempo of it was great. The music needs a shoutout. For the arc it followed this: low in between to start, intro to new world/entertainment district, intro to the fight/Tanjiro focus, good team gets together but enemies power up, all is lost, fight ends and we move on. Standard kind of flow. Sets up a similar fight more demon thing. Shows characters growing more powerful. What I think went really well in the arc (besides the fight sequences bc damn) was the arc’s ability to do a lot with a little. Quickly showing the old flame Hashira establishes the idea of sun breathing and starts his redemption from grumpy asshole. Nezuko’s brief flash of family as she see’s Tanjiro on the ground is enough for us to know she doesn’t want this to happen again. Seeing memories of one’s family and friends is fantastic. Adding a mix of emotion, mystery, and heart. I think this is why the shorter bits of the arc worked very well. I thought the slow start over ~40 minutes was a good breather after the intensity of the last season to recap, learn something new, and the next up. The next part / 3 episodes felt slow to me. Seeing everyone infiltrate wasn’t bad. I just didn’t learn anything new and could have been shorter. Rather than learn anything new and what we didn’t learn seemed to all be to make sure our characters would end up where they needed to be. For the fighting itself no notes. That was great and intense. Some stuff around it was off. The flashbacks were good to have but their timings we a little off. The wives were the worst part for me (I’ll get into that later). The wrap up was good. Not as good as the fight. To me it was a little funny to see everyone back from the dead but does make sense that the arrogant demons wouldn’t check. I like the brother sister love (I especially loved them running into the flames together) but the backstory was a bit long for me (my heart was still coming down from the fight before). Gave bits about the future and wrapped nicely. My only complaint with the season is the wives. First, 3 wives feels silly. I guess it does highlight the excess of Uzui versus the demon brother. But seriously it’s silly. It doesn’t add anything to his character. If the reason there needed to be 3 wives for the 3 houses - bruh - that’s lazy writing. Because there were 3 and there wasn’t a lot of time each has a single character trait so they’re interactions didn’t play off super well. They could have been combined into a single person and that would have made a more interesting character. They also took a lot of screen time and didn’t add much to the story besides there’s 3 of them, they exists, and Uzui cares about them. They also added a bunch of fan service type shots in the show, which didn’t have much of anything before then. It didn’t need them. It felt out of place. I’d recomend Demon Slayer because it did everything in a Shonen perfectly without getting a bad kind of uncomfortable, male-gazey. Of course, this didn’t ruin anything. The season was still great. It just was the worst part, slowing down the pace for 3 side characters that could have been 1 compelling character. tldr season was great. Search for fights and animation from this season and then watch the show.
