Hey! Sooooo I really like The Nice Guys. I just rewatched it and I think it’s time to do a quick review. Summary A famous porn star gets murdered and an unlikely pair of detectives team up to solve the mystery. What starts out as a search for a girl Amelia gets turned into a full blown conspiracy where Detroit auto is bribing the justice department to pollute. Amelia has made a porn film with information that exposes the truth. The buddy cop duo of Ryan Gosling and Russel Crowe slowly uncover this mystery. Positives First and foremost, The Nice Guys is a funny film. The situations are absurd. There are so many funny one liners and back and forths. The delivery of the lines, both the way the actors say the lines and their faces, are fantastic. The comedy is also constant but doesn’t undercut the serious moments. The characters are 3 dimensional, especially the main ones. They are all flawed but you understand them. The main characters grow. The daughter especially anchors the film. The actress is great and is a great mirror for the main characters to know what is good and bad and grow. The story has enough mystery to keep you interested. And in the rewatching, you can see the movie is very deliberate at setting everything up (from mentioning Detroit, the news paper Ryan reads being about bees, to the gun being in the hot tub). Negatives I don’t have a lot. There was one random shot of Russel Crown when Gosling finds the body. But I’m drunk and don’t have anything bad I want to say. I should find another time and way to break down this movie because I seriously like it. If you haven’t seen it and like dark/ish, raunchy comedies please please do.
