# Tiny Bytes: Research Report **Published by:** [ldnovak](https://paragraph.com/@ldnovak/) **Published on:** 2022-06-30 **URL:** https://paragraph.com/@ldnovak/tiny-bytes-research-report ## Content Hi, Did some reading today on the legality of abortions and how to get pills. Today will be less writing and more jotting down info for later.LegalityRip Roe v Wade. The quick summary is that it is illegal to aid someone in getting an abortion in states where abortion is illegal (i.e., it’s illegal to help someone find resources or terminate the pregnancy in Texas). These laws do not allow pregnant people to be prosecuted, only the people who aid them (however, there have been ~60 cases in the last 20 years of this happening. See Plan C’s FAQ for more info). Currently, because the federal government regulates interstate commerce, there are no laws that prevent traveling to another state, and it’s expected for such laws to be unconstitutional; however, this could change given the current nature of the Supreme Court. https://www.texastribune.org/2022/06/24/texas-abortion-law-answers/ https://www.politico.com/news/2022/06/24/abortion-laws-by-state-roe-v-wade-00037695 https://www.aclutx.org/en/know-your-rights/abortion-texasPillsAbortion laws do target supplying pills. The suppliers are the ones who are breaking the law. People who take the pills are not doing something illegal by taking the pills (though sometimes they are still prosecuted). Plan C has an excellent summary. You can get pills via Aid Access or online pharmacies. You can ship them to yourself via Mail Forwarding, to another state, or pick them up. The applicable laws are usually based on your location. Aid Access is a European-based company that ships pills manufactured in India and is considered the premier way to get pills (known good product/FDA approved and clinician support). While what they are doing is illegal, they aren’t based in the US, so there’s not a good way for states to stop them (i.e., a New York-based Telehealth provider could be hampered by South Dakota). Online pharmacies sell drugs online. The product is FDA approved, though has been tested. They can be shipped to states where abortions are illegal through Mail Forwarding (need to look into more) or picking it up in a neighboring state where it is legal. https://www.cnbc.com/2022/06/27/women-in-states-that-ban-abortion-will-still-be-able-to-get-abortion-pills-online-from-overseas.html https://www.plancpills.org/states/north-dakota https://aidaccess.org/en/ https://www.postscanmail.com/how-it-works.htmlClosing ThoughtsGlad that there still are ways to get help. Scary to think that this is necessary. Seems like it would be good to add a little more protection because people have gotten in trouble for having an abortion, and it would be nice to find a way to hide the digital trail. I can look into ways to find this info privately, contact Aid Access privately, and how legit this mail forwarding is.
