To be honest, I enjoy fantasy more. I’m not quite sure why. It may be I like the stories more. It might be a fascination with magic systems. Regardless of the reason, I tend to read and watch more fantasy stories. All that being said, the way technology plays a crucial role in creating new SciFi worlds fascinates me. This is especially true as I’ve spent more and more of my life learning about technology. This eventually got me thinking: could technology build a traditional fantasy world? Could there be spells and magical creatures? How would this be enabled, and what would happen to our world to make it happen? People have definitely built worlds around this. A quick google search finds ideas of TechnoFantasy and Technomagic. I personally haven’t consumed any that match the world I was thinking of. I want a fantasy world with a magic system that’s internal logic is of a SciFi world. I don’t want a magical world that also has advanced technology*. I don’t want SciFi that has mystical unknowns in it. I don’t want steampunk or isekai. I don’t want magically infused machines. I want wizards who cast spells by writing code, and their wands store that code. I want ents that are talking trees enabled by robots. I giant mechanical, magical beasts like sand worms and dragons whose home has an automatic factory that breads them. I want orcs that are bred in a lab. I think it would be really fun to build such a world. Night, Lucas *. When writing, I noticed that technology in a magical world bugged me for some reason. Not that it’s terrible, but I’m not sure if I’ve seen this power scaling work well. I think it’s because either magic is the better thing or technology is the better thing, and it’s hard to balance that scaling. I like how it works in Attack on Titan (spoilers) DONT NOT READ the next bit if you care -- titans are becoming obsolete in wars because of stronger weapons. ## Publication Information - [ldnovak](https://paragraph.com/@ldnovak/): Publication homepage - [All Posts](https://paragraph.com/@ldnovak/): More posts from this publication - [RSS Feed](https://api.paragraph.com/blogs/rss/@ldnovak): Subscribe to updates
