# Making change visible: one scribe at a time

The new, emerging tech era is exciting. We can easily fill each moment of our days with an endless stream of profound insight, revelation and findings: from lengthy podcasts, books and articles, to quick memes and tweets.

But digesting tons of information each day rightly brings fatigue and overwhelm to our biological brains.

### We are only as good as what we can process

Bertram Gross, professor of political science, defined information overload as “when the amount of input to a system exceeds its processing capacity.”

This in turn, he concludes, is likely to make a reduction in decision quality.

What if we honored the liminal space between input and output, by pacing our digestion and fully grasping and relating to new knowledge?

The metamorphosis of turning information into knowledge has entered the chat.

### Visual sensemaking

There are many different ways of processing information. One is using visual, auditory, kinesthetic and tactile cues - also known as multisensory learning.

For example: we process images 60.000 times faster than text, and remember 20% of what we read but 80% of what we see.

Relating to story is another profound way to better grasp our reality. Throughout history, we have shared compelling narratives of our time through painting pictures. In quick sketches or meticulous detail, we have envisioned imagined solutions and desired outcomes.

With visual symbols, memes and metaphor, we create meaning and connect the dots.

### Ideas materialised

Graphic recording, or live scribing, is the visual process of translating information into simple image and text. An art of listening, synthesizing and summarising, that supports cognitive functioning and long-term memory. Think of it as curating a visual mindmap, connecting many different topics into a whole, giving you a holistic overview.

Other forms of embodied information are generative scribing (check the work of Kelvy Bird), data dramatisation (by Liam Young) and meme artistry (“Memes are the most relevant art form of our generation” - James Mccrae)

### My contribution

As a core principle, communication is useless if the receiver cannot follow. An often overlooked fact online, is how many people who has English as their second or third language. To truly make the web3 space accessible and inclusive, I believe we all have the responsibility to lower the threshold for understanding.

I also see immense value in visually documenting the fast-paced and ever-evolving developments of web3 and to make change more tangible.

Transformation can be recognised when we have reference points of a transition.

Here the process is the product.

### Introducing: A web3 scribing series

In the coming weeks, I will be scribing to the first five episodes of _Seed Club’s_ podcast series _Builder’s Journey._ In this series we will visually explore and map out the following interviews:

### Why this specific podcast?

_Seed Club_ is building a future where people, not platforms, capture the value created on the internet. This is my way of capturing the value created on the internet.

### Test one: scribing for learning

In a short experiment I will explore how visualising information can enable effective understanding and documentation. This first test will be done in scribing, while there are many other visual tools I’d like to try out after an evaluation.
