# Announcing L.I.T. *L.I.T. —  Luminous Institute of Technology* By [Luminous](https://paragraph.com/@luminous) · 2025-09-10 lit, luminous, learn, soulbound --- Our “university for the AI era”: an R&D lab at the frontier of AI art, media, and technology, powered by onchain collaboration. Like a campus with departments and colleges, L.I.T. connects every Luminous project into one overarching structure, where people can learn, experiment, and ship. ### **$LIT** **$LIT** is a **soulbound contributor token** for people participating in the Luminous ecosystem, which is focused on building many projects inspired by, and aligned with, the $LUM token. You can only **earn** $LIT by contributing (primarily in the **/luminous** channel for now). This enables **contributors** to be the **primary recipients of value** the community creates. * * * **Why L.I.T.** -------------- AI isn’t replacing human creativity; it’s amplifying it in new ways, allowing it to become more **multiplayer and alive**. We believe the next wave of culture will be co-created by humans and AI, including more personalized, interactive, social, and remixable media. LIT aims to pursue that possibility by using a simple, fair system: **show up, contribute, get recognized for quality**, and **co-owning** the value we create together. **Purpose / Mission** --------------------- LIT aims to make the community **more creative together,** by collaborating with AI. LIT is the contributor layer for Luminous: the place where we ship experiments, remix each other’s work, and double-down on what works, aligning rewards with valuable contributions. People don’t just want to consume culture, they want to be involved in **making** it. Creating gives us voice (expression), **belonging** (being seen), and **growth** (mastery). AI, used well, **amplifies** creativity. Agents can ideate with us, critique us, scaffold process, and open paths that were previously blocked by skill, time, or money. And because we’re social creatures, creation is richer **together**: shared prompts, remix rituals, and fair credit turn a lone effort into a living conversation. Can regularly create small polls for votes for the broader community input. Moving toward a cadence of voting on **monthly proposals** submitted by top contributors to guide focus, change processes, and propose new experiments. * * * **FAQ** ------- ▼**What do you mean by “soulbound”?** $LIT is non-transferable: you can’t buy or sell it. You earn it through meaningful contribution (primarily in **/luminous** for now). It’s a public signal of sustained participation. ▼**How was the initial $LIT distributed?** We seeded it to early contributors based on cura lifetime leaderboard in **/lum /luminous /luminary /arrow /lum-protocol**, weighted differently depending on the channel, with minor modifications. ▼**How will $LIT be distributed going forward?** First, by contributing in **/luminous**. We aim to make it possible for newer participants to make it onto the LIT leaderboard in a reasonable amount of time. $LIT distribution rate and channels can expand over time. ▼**How can I profit if I can’t sell $LIT?** $LIT unlocks eligibility: only [top contributors](https://www.empirebuilder.world/empire/0xBa0E9Cf5a4620Ced08D9e8e351640bf796392660) will receive any **$LUM/ETH/USDC** from the community wallet. You can also receive a share of select community-produced assets (Zora post-coins, NFT drops, etc.). This is an experiment, and open to change if it doesn’t seem to be delivering on the stated purpose. Possibilities could include: 1) Focusing on specific ecosystem projects, 2) micro-guilds, 3) working on better tooling that automates attribution, rewards, and proposals. 4) Developing our own tools that use AI in new ways to promote greater creativity. ▼**How are decisions made?** We are committed to progressive decentralization as we gain traction/success. For the time being we are aiming to be transparent in how decisions are made, and allowing all LIT holders to regularly vote on decisions.
