Its main objective was to station small garrisons that would make it difficult for enemy forces to disembark while the alarm was raised and critical points in Lisbon's defense were mobilized. They sought to compensate for deficiencies in the defense of this stretch of coast against the danger of a Franco-Spanish attack, so the choice of locations for its construction followed a strategic plan.Remains of the Galé BatteryThe Galé Battery, built on a rocky point, intended to prevent, with the support of Forte do Guincho, the enemy landing on the extensive beach of the same name that separated the two fortifications.The one in Cresmina was used to cross fire with S. Brás de Sanxete, in Cabo Raso, and defend the beach that bears its name.
