# Dangerously common advice **Published by:** [DiscordKing](https://paragraph.com/@marlonperalta/) **Published on:** 2022-05-13 **URL:** https://paragraph.com/@marlonperalta/dangerously-common-advice ## Content Lots of artists are spinning their wheels getting nowhere. I hear words of encouragement like: "It takes time..." "Just have patience" "Make sure you're networking" This advice is dangerous. Why? A lot of advice assumes you're in the right direction. It takes time - yes, but time is finite and it matters where you spend it. Have patience - yes, but unlimited patience doing the wrong thing and you'll be patient FOREVER. Network - yes, but with WHO matters. So what to do? Things that matter: Deciding on your long-term goals Understanding your collectors Attracting future buyers Let's go through each one. Deciding on your long-term goals helps you make sense of what you're doing daily. Example: You wanna do art for a huge NFT project. So why are you shilling work under influencer threads? You should be looking for founders and understanding what they want. That's your market. When it comes to networking, it matters with who. One important relationship is with your collectors. Find out: How they found you and your art Why they bought What their collecting habits are Not only are they future buyers, but they also give you insights that help you attract future buyers. When you have a deep understanding of your collectors, you'll know where to find others like them and what they want. So now you're in the right place, NOW network your heart out. Share your story and goals (take it easy on the shilling - shit looks desperate). So yes, all of this "takes time" and you have to "be patient" and "network". But if you're just waiting to get lucky, you might have to wait a long time. Instead, be intentional with your decisions. Learn how to spend your time to make what you want inevitable. === Originally posted on February 8, 2022. ## Publication Information - [DiscordKing](https://paragraph.com/@marlonperalta/): Publication homepage - [All Posts](https://paragraph.com/@marlonperalta/): More posts from this publication - [RSS Feed](https://api.paragraph.com/blogs/rss/@marlonperalta): Subscribe to updates - [Twitter](https://twitter.com/lon_peralta): Follow on Twitter
