# How Bybit Taught Me That Leverage Isn’t the Enemy

It was 2022, and I was looking for a platform focused purely on crypto.

Not something like Crypto.com. I wanted a place where trading was at the center of attention.

The moment I first saw Bybit’s clean interface, I knew I had found my new trading home.

Clean design, fast interface, features I had not seen elsewhere. And most importantly, perpetual contracts, which are still my main playground to this day.

Leverage? I Love It. But With Respect
=====================================

For many traders, leverage is a scary word.

For me, it became one of the sharpest tools in my kit.

50x+ leverage sounds like pure madness to most people. But I see it differently — not as gambling, but as a precise surgical tool.

The conditions are simple. A functional, backtested strategy. Money management with a maximum of 1% of your account per trade. Solid risk management.

Most traders say “do not use leverage.” I prefer to ask: how big do you want your account to grow, and what is your risk tolerance?

It is a completely different story managing $100K, $10K, or $1K. And there is a huge difference between a beginner randomly using leverage and an experienced trader who has tested hundreds of trades.

I once heard in an audiobook by Robert K. Larry, the author of _The First 100 Trades_:

“A trader doesn’t think about one trade, they think about the next hundred.”

That mindset changed the way I approached every position from that point on.

Three Months of Euphoria, One Month of Reality
==============================================

What happens when everything works… until it doesn’t?

2023 was my year of grid bots. I launched them on Bybit, and the results blew me away.

In just three months, I generated 40x turnover on my capital. Three months of pure adrenaline. My capital turnover had never grown so fast. I felt unstoppable.

And that is exactly where the mistake happened.

By the fourth month, I had given a large portion of those gains back to the market. Easy come, easy go, as we say back home.

Today in 2025, I do not recommend grid bots on Bybit. The market has changed, and if you pay attention, you will notice the platform is not pushing them as much anymore. Most bots running now have been active for more than 500 days, and many traders have moved to Martingale or Combo bots instead.

Two Years in Test Mode
======================

What could keep a trader in testing mode for two years?

After the loss, I told myself to pause. Testing mode.

What I did not expect was that it would last for two years.

During that time, I tested strategies on TradingView, coded them into Python, and ran them live with micro amounts. Some worked, some failed, but every single one gave me valuable data.

Then life stepped in. I was finishing my university degree, which took most of my time and focus. On top of that, my main trading laptop started slowing down and could no longer handle running bots the way I needed.

That combination forced me to step away from automation and look at Bybit with my own eyes instead of only through the API.

Stepping back from bots allowed me to see everything Bybit had added over time. During that period, the platform added many features I now plan to explore, such as options, which I have been studying recently. I even posted on X suggesting that Bybit add more coins for options, because right now they only support BTC, ETH, and SOL.

Bybit vs Binance?
=================

People often ask if Bybit is better than Binance.

Binance is bigger, yes. But for me as a Slovak, perpetual trading there is unavailable. So the comparison is simple — I left Binance before I could even test it properly.

What I’m Taking Away From This
==============================

After three years on Bybit, I know one thing.

For someone focused primarily on crypto, it is a great place to trade. But it is not a magic box that will make you money automatically.

You need a strategy, discipline, and the willingness to learn from your own mistakes.

Because at the end of the day, it is not about one trade. It is about the hundreds more that are still ahead.

What about you? Have you ever had a trade, a win, or a loss that completely changed your trading mindset?
