# What makes Farcaster Frames so special?

Imagine the early 2000s, when being at MIT was likened to "living in the Internet". That sense of pioneering the digital frontier is what Farcaster, a decentralized social network by Dan Romero and Varun Srinivasan, brings to the table today. jack-anorak @jack_anorak I remember a student quoted in some newspaper in the 00s who was like "MIT is like living in the Internet" and I thought that sounded so cool, like they were so early to something so big idk the analog here but being on Farcaster rn feels like what that must have been like 6 16:10 • 30 janv. 2024 Farcaster stands out as a protocol managing user data like handles and casts (tweets, essentially) and allowing developers to build unique clients on top of it. The most exciting development in Farcaster right now is Frames. Think of them as mini-apps within casts, enabling interactive content directly in user feeds. Frames can be anything from games to crypto transactions, making them a versatile tool for developers. Their introduction has sparked a flurry of creativity. The community has already created Frames for quick music minting, newsletter sign-ups, selling cookies and even playing Doom or chess in-feed.
