# The HexAnons Story

HexAnons are a fully onchain SVG, owner customisable collection, released free to people who participated in it’s creation and holders of previous Toad collections. The owner of a HexAnon can set it’s color palette onchain to put their own personal stamp on the collection. Want the perfect palette to work as a background for your PFP? See some art and fall in love with its colors? You can make your HexAnon your own. I had 3 main things in mind for the HexAnons release:The Importance of ColorThe Importance of Participation/Creativity/FunThe Importance of Blockchain LiteracyHexAnons #0 The Original PaletteColorColor can make or break an art piece, I feel this is especially the case in generative art. Some palettes are iconic, others end up forgotten. Very simple pieces can look amazing with the right palette while beautiful detailed pieces can look terrible with a not so great palette. Color is also something very personal to us. We grow up with a favorite color. We wear the colors of our favorite sports team. What might be a banger palette to me, may look like crap to you. So I wanted to nudge people towards thinking about/playing with color more, there’s a world of color palettes around you, just gotta find the one that clicks for you.DIY HexAnons by @ambition_wtfFunMost importantly I wanted this release to be about participation, creativity and fun. Everything in Circolors is a group effort and we want to blur the line between creators and collectors as much as possible. The insane entries to the DIY HexAnons competition inspired me to push the creativity into the hands of the people and see what fun stuff they can come up with. Hopefully we can explore more of this in future Circolors projects too :eyes:DIY HexAnons by @minimizer_artAlso, HexAnons is capped at 256 pieces and has ~400 wallets that are eligible to mint (Priority List & Toad Holder List). However, how many of these wallets are still active is unknown. Maybe weeks/months from now we’ll get a random drip of wallets returning to mint. The idea of people nudging their friends who are eligible to mint to remind them, or dusting off old wallets that have a GenFren in them from over a year ago to get one of the final mints just seems like good fun. Can we rally enough of the community to get to 256? We’ll find out.Blockchain LiteracyA nice bonus of this is pushing people to mess around with etherscan to read/write to contracts. Overall, being a better blockchain detective makes it less likely you get scammed, so it’s good practice for everyone to be a little more familiar with what’s going on behind the scenes when you’re minting stuff. Read the contract code, decode some peoples transaction data and see how they’re coloring their piece, lots of ways to crack the secret.The first to be colored, HexAnons #10 by @octal_cryptoConclusionI hope you guys enjoy the cute hexagons and how they came to be. Going forward I want to work on more fun interactive collections and really make the most out of some of the currently untapped capabilities of code art. Keep an eye out for more.
