But once August came around, I could feel the subtle changes in the winds, the sea, the ocean, even our dogs then. The time to head back, and start school was approaching, but still there was that balance between, I gotta enjoy the rest of my holiday, and oh shit school is about to start, I am not ready. In ancient Greece, August marked the height of the harvest, a time of reaping what had been sown and preparing for the slow turn inward as summer waned. It was a season that belonged to Demeter, goddess of the grain and guardian of sacred cycles. Her story reminds us that growth and withdrawal are both holy, and that boundaries, even divine ones, can birth transformation. When Persephone, her daughter, was taken to the underworld, Demeter withdrew her gifts from the world, and the earth turned barren. Only through honoring the sacred agreement-six months above, six below-was balance restored. This myth is not merely seasonal; it speaks to the inner balance we seek between presence and absence, between giving and retreating. As the golden light of August softens and the first hints of descent appear, the wisdom of ancient Greece invites us to ask ourselves, this month: Where must I return to myself? Where do I overextend? And what does the soul of my harvest require?Opening August ReflectionBalance isn't found in the middle, it's found in the motion. Boundaries aren't walls, they're invitations to truth. This month, let's explore how to stay centered while moving, how to love without overextending, and how to hold space for ourselves and others without losing either. Lots of love and reverence as always my friends. Let's have a wonderful month. ## Publication Information - [Meditations](https://paragraph.com/@meditations/): Publication homepage - [All Posts](https://paragraph.com/@meditations/): More posts from this publication - [RSS Feed](https://api.paragraph.com/blogs/rss/@meditations): Subscribe to updates
