# Artist's Block

A day or two ago someone replied asking if it was a typo that one of my "Pic of the Day" photos said "camera: iPhone 4". Nope, it's correct. Over the last two months I haven't written a single word, for the director I'm co-writing her second feature with, or my own current feature that I'm 65 pages into.

Worse, I haven't been that inspired to take photos. I think I'm actually been happy with one photo I've taken so far this year.

The problem with writer's block, or artist's block in general, is the feeling of fear that the inspiration won't ever come back. In the writing world, they say to write every day, no matter what, because that's what being a professional is, doing the work, even when you're not "feeling it". I get this because any job that requires us to show up every day requires that same mentality: show up and do the work, even if you don't want to do it. When I used to perform on stage a lot more than I do now, I trained myself to quickly "get in to the mood" to perform, making sure I never let the audience down by delivering subpar performances. Luckily for me, I've always been a people person and I buzz when I'm around others, so it's easy for me to get into it. And with on-camera acting, what I mostly do now, someone contacts me when there's an audition, so I have no choice but to deliver every single time.

The issue I have with writing and photography, is the ability to not show up for work that day. I literally have no one holding me to a timeline and can make excuses to myself and farm airdrops or watch youtube or do literally anything else because I'm not in the mood to be creative.

So yeah, those are iPhone 4 photos. I have a whole library of pics I've taken over the last decade and only 2 are actually hanging up on people's walls right now. This is the first step of me trying to be more creative and get my visual work out there and push myself to be the working professional that shows up everyday, even if it's not with a camera and instead working on my "brand"...god I hate myself for using that word 🤦‍♂
