# Your Audience Can't Be **Published by:** [Micro Journal](https://paragraph.com/@microjournal/) **Published on:** 2022-08-08 **URL:** https://paragraph.com/@microjournal/your-audience-cant-be-everyone ## Content I'm reading “This is Marketing” by Seth Godin. I'm on the 4th chapter of the book which focuses on the smallest viable market. Finding the smallest viable market for your product is the people: * Who will enjoy your product/offer. * Who will listen to your story. * Who will spread your story. If you can't find the smallest viable market for your product/offer, continue to research. Don't target everyone. In the book, there’s this analogy that illustrates it better: > There’s a dangerous prank that relies on thief-detector dye. This dye, sold as a powder, is quite bright and a tiny bit goes a long way. Once the powder touches the moisture on your skin, it blooms into a bright purple and won’t easily wash off. > > Drop a teaspoon of it into a swimming pool, and all the water in the pool will become permanently bright purple. But if you drop it in the ocean, no one will notice. > > — Seth Godin Your audience can't be **everyone**. Your audience can only be **some**. ## Publication Information - [Micro Journal](https://paragraph.com/@microjournal/): Publication homepage - [All Posts](https://paragraph.com/@microjournal/): More posts from this publication - [RSS Feed](https://api.paragraph.com/blogs/rss/@microjournal): Subscribe to updates ## Optional - [Collect as NFT](https://paragraph.com/@microjournal/your-audience-cant-be-everyone): Support the author by collecting this post - [View Collectors](https://paragraph.com/@microjournal/your-audience-cant-be-everyone/collectors): See who has collected this post
