1) Introduction
---------------

**Cognitive Relics** is a collection of **23 cards** in a deep-indigo, _cyanotype-digital_ aesthetic that explores what remains—or resurfaces—in our minds: memories, errors, doubts, epiphanies. Each card is a **cognitive relic**. Together they form a small **ritual narrative**: from the origin of thought to its eclipse.

**Origin.** The project was sparked by an invitation from **Nicolette Duclare** ( follow on X: **@hi\_im\_nico**), who asked me if I would be interested in creating a deck of **cards.** Although I had never built a full card series before, the idea was appealing, and I was curious to try out the platform, a new Web3 product.

I chose to keep my voice intact—same visual research, same core themes—while translating them into a playable, coherent set. These cards are released on **VibeMarket** (_vibechain.com_).

So, at the beginning of the month, I started thinking and writing…and I travelled through the world of dreams…

> **Technique note** — All images are conceived in a **Cyanotype Digital** aesthetic: single-ink indigo, paper grain, and print-like rendering. This means **every card is ready to become a physical cyanotype (sun print)**: just create a **negative** and make a **contact print** (see the appendix “From Card to Sun”, chapter 6)

2) The Story and the History
----------------------------

In 1523, **Arborius Malerba** was born—an alchemist and observer of the inner sky. For centuries he has **reappeared in people’s dreams**: a calm figure, slightly **strabic (right eye)**, inviting us to look at certainties “askance.” Those who meet him **do not remember** upon waking, yet a sensation lingers: a key, an eye, a threshold.

The 23 cards are his **oneiric notebook**—tools, proofs, and omens that guide a journey through five stages: **foundations**, **connections**, **labyrinths**, **revelations**, **paradox**.

![Arborius Malerba](https://storage.googleapis.com/papyrus_images/9c273ea242f7ba667ea92c038083fcba3e81c714c2a46cbb6fe8982117695f96.png)

Arborius Malerba

In 1553 **Arborius Malerba** began collecting what he called _reliquiae mentis_—relics of thought. Slightly **strabic in the right eye**, he trusted that “seeing askance” reveals what straight sight misses. His notebooks describe a portable **camera obscura**, mirrors, lenses—and a method: move from the visible to its **negative**, then back to a clearer positive. That loop is the spine of _Cognitive Relics_.

His studies even included research on the light bulb. But we don’t know whether he actually built one or not. If he did, it would have been a monumental achievement, more than two centuries ahead of its time!

Arborius Malerba

Arborius appears **in dreams** at the threshold—our **THE GATE**—when a new idea first **blooms** (_NEURON BLOOM_) or when repetition hardens into a frame (_ECHO CHAMBER_). He teaches micro-rituals: a measured routine (_CLOCKWORK MIND_), a shelf for memories (_MEMORY SHELF_), a poised breath between reason and feeling (_BALANCE POINT_). These are the **foundations**—the common tools of any mind.

Then he tilts the light. He shows that **certainties cast shadows**: the profile becomes a **question mark** (_SHADOW OF DOUBT_). From that mark the path branches—bridges form between distant meanings (_SYNAPSE BRIDGE_), fragile insights must be carried with care (_GLASS THOUGHT_), and what won’t fit by day is filed at night (_NIGHT ARCHIVE_). The trees whisper if we listen softly (_WHISPER TREE_). These cards bind **connection** with **humility**.

Deeper in, the floor becomes **map**. We enter the **LABYRINTH WITHIN**, where time doesn’t pass so much as **filter** (_TIME DRIP_) and the mirror answers back (_MIRRORED SOUL_). Here Arborius’s strabic gaze matters: one eye tracks the world, the other the **inner sky**. When both align, the skull becomes a **NEUROVERSE**—micro and macro rhyming.

Finally comes the veil: **MIND ECLIPSE**. Not erasure, but a necessary shadow that lets the ring of awareness appear. What remains on the table is a key engraved **XXIII**—_THE 23RD KEY_. Its inscription—“**Opens only in the presence of truth**”—is not a lock but a **measure**: how much uncertainty can we hold without closing? Arborius doesn’t hand us answers; he hands us **posture**. Card by card, his relics teach the stance from which seeing—digital or sun-printed—becomes thinking.

3) Structure & rarities
-----------------------

* **COMMON (12)** – the alphabet of the mind: simple symbols, clear concepts.

*   **UNCOMMON (5)** – connections and penumbras.

* **RARE (3)** – the inner journey and its temporal folds.

*   **EPIC (2)** – condensed, near-mystical visions.

* **LEGENDARY (1)** – _The 23rd Key_: the final question.

![](https://storage.googleapis.com/papyrus_images/ef945ef3bc41feb411182dacad2cce24ec37148c799689439b62437d716756eb.jpg)

Please note: this structure is slightly different from the classic one proposed by the platform, as I use the ‘Uncommon’ version.

Thus translated:

Common = Common (platform)

Uncommon = Rare (platform)

Rare = Epic (platform)

Epic = Legendary (platform)

Legendary = Mythic (platform)

Therefore, version 1/1 in my version is legendary, which on the website falls under Mythic. This is not an error, simply my choice for other reasons.

4) The sequence (23 cards)
--------------------------

Each title appears on the card; the short line is the **printed flavor text**. Beneath it is a **narrative note** linking the card to the previous/next step in Arborius’s path.

### COMMON — Foundations (1–12)

**1- NEURON BLOOM**

![“Thoughts blooming like spring flowers.”](https://storage.googleapis.com/papyrus_images/3f329cf18db33f347a3f19ca831b1566ae00da52195a8329de79fe2b1b284224.jpg)

“Thoughts blooming like spring flowers.”

An idea flowers where silence used to be.

Filaments open like petals: the first spark is not loud, it’s organic.

Ideas don’t arrive by force; they unfold when the light is right.

**2 - ECHO CHAMBER**

![“A voice repeated until it becomes truth.”](https://storage.googleapis.com/papyrus_images/12f78b435f63b01465d70a575c3da45a0f3ca67465821ab521ba8cc626030b4a.jpg)

“A voice repeated until it becomes truth.”

Thought replicates; inner consensus seeds the first doubt.

Concentric waves loop back on themselves, beautifying bias.

The form is pleasing, almost musical—reminding us that comfort is not the same as accuracy.

**3 - CLOCKWORK MIND**

![“Precision in every decision.”](https://storage.googleapis.com/papyrus_images/5d9647d520fec79a518cbe926e3b7c22ef9b037a30aea9c5d962c5a188e12c28.jpg)

“Precision in every decision.”

Elegant mechanisms… until one tooth slips—friction.

Interlocked gears promise certainty, but every gear needs play.

Rigor is a rhythm, not a prison—precision serves curiosity.

**4 - MEMORY SHELF**

![“Each moment stored for later recall.”](https://storage.googleapis.com/papyrus_images/8906edae1fde111be25abf8308fbfdfe37c3a6cc74de3d5b73e383867c7f06de.jpg)

“Each moment stored for later recall.”

What seems stable on the mental shelves (often isn’t).

Spines align, yet dust settles on what we swear we won’t forget.

The shelf is orderly; the mind isn’t—archives preserve, but they also reinterpret.

**5 - BALANCE POINT**

![The fragile harmony of reason and feeling.”](https://storage.googleapis.com/papyrus_images/b1bdccf36c1f283c6804d5b31f8af39236269e7ddab0fe2f91cee361d3a790b4.jpg)

The fragile harmony of reason and feeling.”

The scale wavers: reason and affect seek each other.

A plate holds a shifting cargo, the needle never sleeps.

The balance is alive, not static.

**6 - THE GATE**

![“Opening the path to awareness.”](https://storage.googleapis.com/papyrus_images/6f1814966e9c29b59acf87488a3507c1cb3794cdb096dc74512386f7e632a44c.jpg)

“Opening the path to awareness.”

The threshold isn’t crossed—you **become** it.

An arch and a keyway: the threshold appears when attention converges.

The door isn’t “out there”—the composition implies that you become the hing

**7 - SILENT STEP**

![ “The quietest moments leave the deepest marks.”](https://storage.googleapis.com/papyrus_images/fd9887ae92166e09253e3cc6af24b6818e70ef7a9f5b0ef7e4cd1e5764823933.jpg)

“The quietest moments leave the deepest marks.”

The sign that makes no noise.

Bare footprints, no flourish—just direction.

The negative space does the speaking: restraint engraves deeper than display.

**8 - INK THOUGHT**

![“Ideas that stain the mind.”](https://storage.googleapis.com/papyrus_images/aee8ee9294be754e892d22d9830a2f8117d655e61c078502b2d567904280e2de.jpg)

“Ideas that stain the mind.”

Some ideas stain forever.

A bloom of pigment spreads; control follows consequence.

The blot is both accident and map—once a mark exists, you must read it.

**9 - THOUGHT SEED**

![“Planting the future in the present.”](https://storage.googleapis.com/papyrus_images/60f8f1a2cf2a13ff6c25fd8b9f7fbc32e8253ec4e266c7b81e43273e5449e3a4.jpg)

“Planting the future in the present.”

Seeds in the present, memory to the future.

A single sprout bends toward a light we cannot see.

Small in the frame, yet central—the card reminds: scale ≠ significance.

**10 - LIGHT FRAGMENT**

![“Pieces of clarity in the dark.”](https://storage.googleapis.com/papyrus_images/d71a60428401d5f9f768a13a93718454337724bde78c2623388d7346b6ba430a.jpg)

“Pieces of clarity in the dark.”

Shards of light that point the way.

Shards of brightness, never a perfect pane.

The facets suggest that truth arrives as angles; rotate, don’t force a flat.

**11 - MIND SPRING**

![“Where ideas flow endlessly.”](https://storage.googleapis.com/papyrus_images/ada7220a1c5c98fefe6145a6691fc872fe753c7d82a4b701e0749629b852d22d.jpg)

“Where ideas flow endlessly.”

Energy without form—direction needed.

A source rises from within the frame, not poured from above.

Flow without banks becomes flood—the image calls for form, not more water.

**12 - THE ANCHOR**

![ “Holding steady in the mental tide.”](https://storage.googleapis.com/papyrus_images/507860658f7cbda41cbd49a4f0e9106230f61deddc0bc295bc569deae449e59c.jpg)

“Holding steady in the mental tide.”

Before going deeper, an **anchor** in oneself.

Weight and ring—the tool is for staying, not stopping.

Placed low in the composition, it grounds the eye: stability is a choice.

### UNCOMMON — Connections & shadows (13–17)

**13 - SHADOW OF DOUBT**

![“Where certainty fades into question.”](https://storage.googleapis.com/papyrus_images/20c83a2ec13030652869612490aab47a75b02a76c13d2051a21f6cba98c6a526.jpg)

“Where certainty fades into question.”

From here rises: **Who am I?**

The profile’s curve completes a question mark: identity turns itself.

Doubts are repurposed certainties; the shape didn’t vanish—it changed work.

**14 - SYNAPSE BRIDGE**

![“Connections forged across the void.”](https://storage.googleapis.com/papyrus_images/618c3e36f6c18a3d3d2f7e0419c96cbae5b665486490ab8e3551463fa9e23b44.jpg)

“Connections forged across the void.”

Doubt builds **bridges** between islands of meaning.

Nodes arc across darkness, a span built from signal alone.

The bridge isn’t stone; it’s timing—showing that relation precedes distance.

**15 - GLASS THOUGHT**

![ “Beautiful yet dangerously fragile.”](https://storage.googleapis.com/papyrus_images/1ca528d7f3a403a3efabc00c0f3592099280adeb6df7fab01442f36e95b8c3b3.jpg)

“Beautiful yet dangerously fragile.”

Lovely insights, fragile nonetheless—one touch can shatter them.

A glass vessel holds a shimmering idea; hairline stress already forms.T

Arborius warns: carry insights like instruments—useful, but breakable in pride.

**16 - NIGHT ARCHIVE**

![“Dreams catalogued in moonlight.”](https://storage.googleapis.com/papyrus_images/eea3162bb9b6ca689c8310cfe808eb9ee8cfce616d22e0fb06dedf42255105ae.jpg)

“Dreams catalogued in moonlight.”

The dream arranges the relics; order doesn’t explain—it illuminates.

Shelves under a lunar hush; labels no one can read by day.

The card suggests that order exists in darkness too—just not in our usual alphabet.

**17 - WHISPER TREE**

![“Leaves that murmur secrets.”](https://storage.googleapis.com/papyrus_images/05543e062a5825fcec2364e61665dc31ab232108314633cae22ff0d2c45e1bc3.jpg)

“Leaves that murmur secrets.”

Nature whispers; listening already changes you.

Veins on the leaves resemble tiny scripts.

The picture invites slow attention—some messages are optimized for silence, not speed.

### RARE — Labyrinths & time (18–20)

**18 - LABYRINTH WITHIN**

![“Every step deeper into yourself.”](https://storage.googleapis.com/papyrus_images/e8a6e9eb8046ba939b4071d7b80cf1c269ba425be19a3457a678d2d33cd19e53.jpg)

“Every step deeper into yourself.”

The labyrinth isn’t a place—it’s a method.

Walls echo your own angles—exits become mirrors.

The geometry implies method over panic: progress is circular before it is straight.

**19 - TIME DRIP**

![“Hours melt like candle wax.”](https://storage.googleapis.com/papyrus_images/145d6a2c068130c36f2d141b4fefe4e8c7f1ce858d193508f32f5d0da8cf4cd3.jpg)

“Hours melt like candle wax.”

Time doesn’t pass; it **filters**—self-contours soften.

A droplet stretches between moments; form changes, matter remains.

The card frames time as developer chemistry—exposure reveals, rushing fogs.

**20 - MIRRORED SOUL**

![“Reflections that answer back.”](https://storage.googleapis.com/papyrus_images/96a9b4b0ba75805d14348b8d704760c88a8335a54435ba64629eb7487d11cacd.jpg)

“Reflections that answer back.”

The mirror answers—rarely as you expected.

The mirror center is slightly off-axis—answers arrive slant.

What returns is not your face but your position; the image centers posture over portrait.

### EPIC — Revelations (21–22)

**21 - NEUROVERSE**

![“A cosmos contained in one mind.”](https://storage.googleapis.com/papyrus_images/c6c3db5bc64ccde6573a0b85040e229c724fc067cdf60db5ef2d2b7a4e5224dd.jpg)

“A cosmos contained in one mind.”

Microcosm = macrocosm: the mind as a starry vault.

Constellations rhyme with synapses—a double exposure of scale.

The card argues for parity: you are not smaller than the sky, just nearer.

**22 - MIND ECLIPSE**

![“When awareness turns to shadow.”](https://storage.googleapis.com/papyrus_images/e1d73564f3af83c6db22b4b4fe8167086345cba6008de414b5ab6e5e2dbc9606.jpg)

“When awareness turns to shadow.”

Light is veiled. Not an annulment—precondition for the next vision.

A head in aureole: the ring is what remains when brilliance hides.

The image proposes that shadow is a tool—contrast makes the contour legible.

### LEGENDARY

**23 - THE 23RD KEY** (Paradox)

![“Opens only in the presence of truth.”](https://storage.googleapis.com/papyrus_images/48c6f12ae63994d0b34eb67992bde28913f4ec06b59598c5a58c7ea68988efff.jpg)

“Opens only in the presence of truth.”

_What is truth?_ Arborius realizes the **key** opens nothing “outside”: it measures what one is **willing not to know**.

The threshold coincides with the question itself.

An ornate key, an eye, an inscription that refuses closure.

Visually precious yet functionally paradoxical—the card measures how much uncertainty you can bear without faking an answer.

“Yes” / “No” / “I don’t know”.

“No, I don’t know”.

Remain in silence.

“At this point, does it make sense to live according to other people's opinions?

How can I be sure I know what they think of me?

And who am I?”

It’s said that when Arborius appears in dreams repeating this phrase over and over again, it is a sign.

Some dream scholars have interpreted it as advice to turn the page, to make a change in one's life.

5) Tools & workflow
-------------------

**Core tools**

* **AI (various tools and platform)** — visual co-creation from original concepts/prompts; _image-to-image_ iterations for style and composition consistency.

* **Adobe Photoshop** — layered compositing, masking, tonal shaping (Curves), typography, master/negative prep.

**Pipeline**

1. **Concept & prompts**: mental symbols, clear iconography, unified grid; rarity-driven art direction (common→mythic).

2. **AI as collaborator**: compositional exploration, controlled variations, consistent monocolor indigo look.

3. **Mixed media (Photoshop)**: cleanup, grain unification, typography, flavor bar, rarity tags.

4. **Cyanotype-ready**: files designed to be **inverted/mirrored** and printed as **negatives** on OHP for sun prints.

6) Appendix — From card to sun (cyanotype in 5 steps)
-----------------------------------------------------

Open the card in Photoshop at 300–600 ppi at final size.

Add layers: Invert (negative) on top; a gentle Curves tweak for cyanotype (more mid-tone contrast); Flip Horizontal (mirror).

Print on inkjet OHP, coated side. Driver: Premium Glossy / Best Photo / High Speed OFF / Color ON.

Contact print: glass / negative (ink-side down) / sensitized paper. With two 395–400 nm UV lamps at 15–25 cm, start with 4–8 min (bracket 2/4/6/8).

Wash in water; dry. To preview the final blue immediately: a quick 1–2% H₂O₂ bath.

I did some quick tests, the result is rewarding and it's nice to feel its physicality!

From my mind, to AI, to paper.

It's a pleasant journey, isn't it?

A tip if you want to achieve greater depth is to add another layer of negative, well aligned with the other.

I'm thinking of doing print editions in the future; ultimately, the whole process is aimed at that output. We'll see...

Here some tests:

7) FAQ
------

**Is it playable?**

The layout and rarities are designed for visual playability.

Not really, apart from the narrative part of the project, the cards, like any work of art, leave room for free interpretation. I leave the question and the answer to future users (including myself, of course).

**Why monochrome?**

It makes the set iconic and easily translatable to cyanotype (read chapter 6)

**Is there a single story?**

Yes: follow cards 1→23 to travel with Arborius to the paradox of truth.

**Where I can find them?** On Vibechain market

To **Nicolette Duclare** (X: **@hi\_im\_nico**) for the invitation that sparked this pack, to the VibeMarket team and community, which I don't know yet, but which I see as active and positive (good luck to everyone), and to everyone opening packs with curiosity.

And, as always, to all those who take the time to read my long guides. I know there are very few of you, so double thanks. Of course, I understand those who stop at the first chapter, my responsibility. Writing and exploring in depth is part of my creative process, whether anyone reads it or not, I cannot escape this part. Which is perhaps my favourite lol.

For any information, you can write to me in DM on X. Sometimes I can’t answer right away, but I always reply.
