`Abstract:`

In the ever-evolving landscape of financial crime, cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin have emerged as both a tool for innovation and a potential haven for money laundering. This study delves into applying machine learning techniques to identify and combat money laundering activities within the Bitcoin ecosystem. Utilizing the Elliptic Bitcoin Dataset, we compare the efficacy of four supervised learning algorithms — Logistic Regression, Support Vector Machines, Decision Trees, and Random Forests — in detecting illicit transactions. Our findings reveal that machine learning can significantly enhance the precision and recall of money laundering detection, paving the way for more robust regulatory frameworks. This research underscores the pivotal role of advanced analytics in safeguarding the integrity of financial systems.
