Everyone is asking the wrong question about AI and identity.
The industry is racing to build better liveness detection, stronger anti-spoofing, smarter behavioral biometrics. The assumption: AI can fake identity signals, so we need better identity signals.
But that diagnosis misses something deeper.
The problem isn't that identity signals are getting weaker. The problem is that "who are you?" is itself the wrong question for the AI era.
Identity is not a state. It's a continuous claim. Every second that passes after authentication is a second in which that claim could have been broken — and we have no protocol for checking that.
The internet has standards for identity (OAuth, TLS, DIDs, VCs). None of them answer: "Is the same entity still here?"
We're a small research group called The Continuity Lab. We've published an open protocol (CPS-0001) for continuity receipts — engine-independent, self-verifying receipts that prove continuous presence over time.
