Learning languages to have a checkmark on CV and (no value in learning itself; only value in what the learning is for, therefore your language will always be average) just for the sake of learning languages and the satisfaction from a continuous progress vs learning languages to gain an epistemological insight into the way people think, to extend current thought formulation by foreign linguistic operations, to learn wisdom typical to a specific culture, to show respect to colleagues and participate in activities meaningful in their culture, to experience the uniqueness and beauty of foreign poetry and literature, …

Further, adding new language to the stack linearly broadens the scope of linguistic understanding, however it is also possible to achieve an emergent qualitative effect that deepens the general understanding of linguistics and human mind in context of culture.

Now, there is a trend to learn new languages - and I say following this trend to merely linearly add more quantity to ones linguistics without even any purpose to it other than to feel good due to a noticeable progress, is something ought not be done. For such person who does not have any deeper aims it is better to spend time doing something in which they are capable of reaching higher values.
