# The Handler and His Beast

---

The laughing hunter and his hungry dogs

Pursue me even in the dark

His laughter I guess was misleading

For in him I thought I’d found a friend

There I think lies the beginning of it all

For indeed a dear mistake I had made

The dogs I found where no dogs at all

But mighty lions, the king of the jungle himself

Deceit was his meal and envy, his passion

He came clothed in raiment of friendship and love

How was I to know he was the enemy of my soul?

Offering sweet smelling gifts

Bearing presents the stuff of dreams

Cleverly the trap he laid

Well wrapped in honey I say

With open arms I received his gifts

Seed of death, but how was I to know

Year in year out I’m lost in his grip

A battle I know I can never win alone

Season after season I hoped against hope

For freedom, oh sweet, sweet freedom

The foe it seem had me subdued

The perfect entrapment I told my soul

Until the King stretched forth his hands

Snatching me I say from the cold hands of death

The horrible hunter had me cornered

Hanging I was from the strength of his beastly jaw

Till He with eyes of fire called out my name

Snatching me indeed from the very claws of death
