# The Avenues. > What if she shifted her perspective? What if her vantage point were to change? What if the lessons she had learned were pivoted in her brain? **Published by:** [On The Inside](https://paragraph.com/@ontheinside/) **Published on:** 2024-03-30 **URL:** https://paragraph.com/@ontheinside/the-avenues ## Content The Avenues | A sketch by Melanie JaneSubscribe now She saw three avenues Three ways to be. She saw three avenues And a hierarchy within the. One would be good One would be great One less-than-adequate For the life she felt she needed to portray. She felt herself scramble In her day-to-day being She felt herself scramble How could she measure up to the scene? What should she do To reach the top? What should she do To avoid the bottom tier that she saw? In one life she would be accepted. In one she would be radiant and grand. In one a disappointment; her life simply a flaw. - We live in a world full of tangible things Money and power Projections of expected dreams. Hierarchies of good Of bad and of best Surround us in life Promise to keep us in check. We are told how to be How to live How to learn. We are told how to see This is better, for sure. - Her eyes glazed over As she starred at the set Like a mountain; an Everest How could she even take the first step? So many expectations So many variables at play How could she maintain control as she went To ensure that a successful life she would display? She felt in great conflict As she pondered her way For what was deemed less than to some Her heart felt a desire to engage in that day. The avenue to success Seemed dreadful in her eyes. The avenue that equated to less Felt exciting and of interest for her life. - Sometimes life tells us what is good What is great and grand. Sometimes life tells us what is wrong What is deemed as the bottom of the barrel at hand. Positives and negatives. Good and bad. Prestigious and less than. So many labels are at hand. Some make it to the top Some remain far below Some float in the middle Some never take part in the show. - As her mind continued to churn As she remained frozen in her tracks She then began to ponder Why should she succumb to this track? What if she shifted her perspective? What if her vantage point were to change? What if the lessons she had learned Were pivoted in her brain? What if the top was just a place? What if the bottom was too? What if she could find happiness and joy Wherever it was that she felt called to remain? What if the tangibles did not matter? The tangible expectations at play? What if how she felt she should be Would be more than okay? She examined those avenues She thought long and hard She examined those avenues Then she shifted her eye’s focus upon their parts. She stood up from the floor She climbed the stairs to the top She looked down at those options She could not believe what she saw. Where before there were deviations In the height and the weight From above, those three options Were seen equally displayed. One was not above the other There was no right and no wrong. One was not above the other She could choose the avenue which she felt called to take on.The Avenues | A sketch by Melanie Jane ## Publication Information - [On The Inside](https://paragraph.com/@ontheinside/): Publication homepage - [All Posts](https://paragraph.com/@ontheinside/): More posts from this publication - [RSS Feed](https://api.paragraph.com/blogs/rss/@ontheinside): Subscribe to updates ## Optional - [Collect as NFT](https://paragraph.com/@ontheinside/the-avenues): Support the author by collecting this post - [View Collectors](https://paragraph.com/@ontheinside/the-avenues/collectors): See who has collected this post
