**Finding Your Tribe: An Analysis of my Personal Trading Group Journey by RTIII**

_“Whatever you do in life, surround yourself with smart people that will argue with you.”_

That quote was by the legendary John Wooden, and is a great way to sustain growth in life.  It is also a great way to continue to learn and grow in Web3.

I have been in multiple trading groups, and remain in several today. This piece will share my thoughts and analysis of those I am in, and share some others that have received praise.

My Web3 Journey
---------------

### Background

I was lucky to be early to crypto, making my first investment with a small purchase of Bitcoin (“BTC”) in 2017.  Unfortunately, I was young and invested based on the hype, without truly understanding the technology and ethos of the decentralized financial movement. I subsequently sold it on the first run-up for just under $20k.

Fast forward to late Fall 2020, and a group of my friends brought NBA Top Shot to my attention.  I purchased my first pack and was instantly hooked.  It reminded me of when I was a kid collecting Pokèmon cards.  Discovering the ability to make money by selling on their marketplace, had me even more addicted and I continued to collect and trade Top Shot moments.  It was then, I discovered NFTs on Ethereum and so the rabbit hole began.

I immersed myself in content. Initially with the Bankless, Modern Finance, and Gary Vee podcasts just to learn more about the NFT scene on Ethereum.  I began curating my Twitter feed with the best minds in NFTs and crypto and spent roughly two months just learning and following while developing a plan.  I was hoping I could find a group of like-minded people, smarter and more experienced than me, that were patient enough to help a beginner.

I quickly found my first group, Block Party Labs. They were a small open group created by a veteran of the NFT and crypto scene, named [Creigh](https://twitter.com/craycreigh?s=21&t=qlXj67wzby8XpdMww4m_lw).  He shared an abundance of alpha, investment ideas, and trading strategies which gave me the tools to start my journey.  The best part of Web3 is that the veterans of the space do their best to onboard new entrants, and that rang true for me.

### Cyberkongz

Between buying my first NFTs, monitoring communities, and spending my free time in Block Party Labs, it was evident that Cyberkongz (“Kongz”) were the premier group for alpha at the time.  They always seemed to be ahead of the trends, whether it be DeFi protocols, sh\*\*coins, or NFTs, Kongz were usually involved if the project was successful.

Anyone involved in Web3 in late Summer/Early Fall 2021 can attest, Wall Street Kongz (“WSK”) was the place to be if you wanted the early alpha on new projects. This started a token-gated, private communication channel movement that we see prevalent today.

### Private Groups

Block Party Labs, led by [Creigh](https://twitter.com/craycreigh?s=21&t=qlXj67wzby8XpdMww4m_lw) shared numerous high-quality alpha calls and trading strategies.  This isn’t the “alpha” you see today that permeates through every closed discord channel within hours. This was refined, cutting-edge information that could give you the upper hand in the market.

The community consisted of beginners like myself and more experienced crypto natives.  I rapidly learned who to listen to and soaked up what they were saying, like a sponge in water.  From there, the whitelist grind meta became a normal practice and that led me to establish my second group. A group I still call my home today, even over a year later.

Around the time of peak grind meta, I was still searching for more groups to learn from.  While grinding the whitelist for Furballs, I exclusively hung out in the crypto channel.  It was an insane channel to share alpha, and ideas.

I am pretty sure that group on-boarded the majority of that Discord into Dani Sesta’s Wonderland TIME, where most of us got rugged a few months later. But it’s all about the friends you made along the way, right?!

Post mint out, some of my new friends sold and moved on, but we eventually started a new private group we later called [Necro’s Beach House](https://twitter.com/necrosbeach?s=21&t=b4OaEw2kdm3XJD8j1_NOCA).  Here we talk about anything and everything, share projects, remind each other of wallet submissions, and everything in between.  It’s a great home base and I truly love everyone there, as they have become a part of my day-to-day life for the better part of the last year.  They have also helped me grow immensely in the space as they are far smarter than I am.

There’s a saying: “You are a product of your environment. So choose the environment that will best develop you toward your objective.”

Application Based Groups
------------------------

The next meta became application-based groups.  Projects like Underground, Hideout, Wumbo Pass, Momentum, and Consortium Key entered the space in 2022 utilizing this method to curate their community.  I have been fortunate enough to become a member of a few of these, and while there are some similarities, there are many differences.

### Wumbo Pass and Momentum

Wumbo, and Momentum focus on NFT trading and give their communities access to some of the best traders in the space like [Cirrus](https://twitter.com/CirrusNFT), [Aura](https://twitter.com/NFTAura?s=20&t=fjAnx53I2xWl2CQ6PdM5ww), [Sneaky](https://twitter.com/SneakyninjaNFTs?s=20&t=fjAnx53I2xWl2CQ6PdM5ww), [Lungin](https://twitter.com/0xLungin?s=20&t=fjAnx53I2xWl2CQ6PdM5ww), [Linkoman](https://twitter.com/Linkomanft?s=20&t=fjAnx53I2xWl2CQ6PdM5ww), and many more.  In addition to having the ability to learn from elite traders, these communities provide holders with useful alerts, high-quality giveaways, and access to tools, as well as AMAs with projects.

### Consortium Key

Consortium Key (“CK”) is a degenerate’s delight.  CK is mainly focused on leverage trading and sh\*\*coins as opposed to the other NFT-based projects mentioned.  CK provides holders with bots Phoebe and Mimas that are accessible right from Discord.  Phoebe has the ability to buy coins and Mimas is a mint bot for NFTs.  CK also has a ton of alerts for both NFTs and coins.  The community in CK is phenomenal and extremely helpful.  Being a part of CK has made me an immensely better trader, and it is one of my favorite groups to date.

### Origins NFT

Last but not least, an article about trading groups that does not include Origins, is considered incomplete in my book.  I purchased my Origins pass a few months back with recommendations from some friends in Necros Beach House.  I can honestly say it is the best community I have bought into.  [Jumpman](https://twitter.com/jumpmanft?s=20&t=fjAnx53I2xWl2CQ6PdM5ww) is one of the best founders and builders in the space, and Origins showcases that.

Origins is a one-stop shop for NFT information.  It is a hub of true alpha, not the common knowledge stuff that’s two a penny.  Origins provide holders with unlimited analytics in the form of Discord bots (see Dashboard below) including summaries of the market, p2e yields, analysis on listings, undercutters, floors, macro articles, project deep dives and more.  There are also live trading analysis sessions, exclusive AMAs with project founders, and solidity lessons. It’s a wealth of knowledge.

In addition to valuable trading information, Origins is an outstanding, tight-knit community.  It schedules many community events, including poker twice per week, and games for increased odds in giveaways.

One of the more unique aspects of Origins is the project-specific channels.  These provide a place for holders of projects to communicate, as well as prospective buyers to feel out the community before buying.  Not to mention the release of the Origins Trading Terminal which will provide holders with an even more comprehensive arsenal to win in the market.

Some testimonials from Origins community members can be seen below:

Closing Remarks
---------------

In all walks of life, you are a product of your environment, and Web3 is no different.

Trading groups are the infrastructure of Web3 and the place to be in a bear market.  There is a reason they have held up better than any other group of NFTs in current market conditions.  I have personally learned so much from all of the aforementioned groups as they are a part of my day-to-day trading routine, and I cannot emphasize the importance of finding useful groups that suit your needs enough.

_Disclosure: I am a team member and holder of both Consortium Key and Origins, and hold a Momentum Pass as well._
