Artificial intelligence startup Superpanel has drawn attention in both the tech and legal sectors after announcing the successful close of a $5.3 million seed funding round. The fresh capital will be used to expand its capabilities in automating legal intake, the crucial process of onboarding new legal clients, which has long been a bottleneck for litigation law firms. By introducing AI into this workflow, Superpanel aims to transform client onboarding from a labor-intensive manual process into a fast and streamlined experience.

Legal intake has historically stood as one of the greatest barriers to justice. Many potential clients give up midway through because of administrative hurdles and slow communication. Superpanel sees this as an opportunity where AI can cut inefficiencies, automating nearly half the process without sacrificing accuracy. With its hybrid model, the company ensures that AI and human teams work side by side to process cases more effectively.

Superpanel’s seed round was led by Outlander VC and Field Ventures. Their involvement underscores the strong belief in AI’s potential to disrupt the legal industry. Additional participation came from LOI Venture, Zenda Capital, 8-Bit Capital, and Behind Genius Ventures. Altogether, the $5.3 million round is set to accelerate technical hires and expand Superpanel’s presence among litigation firms.

Julien Emery, co-founder and CEO, said his personal experience inspired the company’s founding. Having seen family members struggle to gain access to legal help because of clunky intake processes, Emery realized that removing this early friction with automation could allow more people to access justice.

Backers of the company are confident legaltech will emerge as one of the fastest-growing sectors. Outlander VC emphasized that AI innovation is key to lowering legal costs, which many view as prohibitively high. They described Superpanel as a pioneer filling a critical gap in the digital legal ecosystem.

Field Ventures pointed to the operational angle, noting that many litigation firms face thousands of leads per month. Superpanel’s system can dramatically boost productivity without forcing firms to significantly increase headcount.

Meanwhile, LOI Venture and Zenda Capital highlighted the broader social impact. In their view, Superpanel is not just an AI tool for law firms but a catalyst for expanding access to justice.

Superpanel plans to direct the funding across several priorities. The first is to strengthen its AI technology, making it more adaptable to complex legal scenarios. The second is to recruit legal and technical talent to broaden the platform’s scope. The third is market expansion, particularly targeting U.S. plaintiff law firms handling personal injury, mass tort, and class action cases.

With this strategy, Superpanel aims to position itself as the dominant player in automated legal intake within the next three years.

Superpanel’s platform automates up to 50 percent of legal intake tasks. Processes that once took days can now be completed within hours. The system operates across multiple communication channels—phone, email, SMS, and online forms—ensuring that clients are not lost in bureaucratic backlogs.

The AI does not fully replace human staff but instead filters, classifies, and summarizes client information before handing it off to attorneys. This hybrid approach is designed to maintain service quality while drastically reducing administrative workloads.

Clients are invited to describe their case using their preferred channel of communication. The AI follows up with interactive questions and requests for relevant documents, such as medical records, police reports, or contracts.

Once the data is gathered, the system classifies the case type, determines the appropriate jurisdiction, and flags missing documentation. When ambiguity or risks arise, the case is escalated to human staff for review.

This process ensures that each case remains on track legally without overwhelming intake staff with repetitive administrative tasks.

The main advantage of Superpanel lies in its hybrid model. By combining automation with human oversight, the company balances speed and accuracy. Litigation firms retain full control of the process while cutting back on the heavy workload.

This also helps build trust with traditionally conservative firms hesitant to hand entire processes to AI. Human oversight ensures a smoother transition to digital adoption.

This allows litigation firms to handle more cases with the same resources while giving clients a more responsive and modern experience.

Investors view this positioning as an opportunity to set a new industry standard. If adoption spreads, Superpanel could establish itself as a benchmark for other legaltech companies.

Despite its strong outlook, challenges remain. Rivals may expand into intake services, intensifying competition. Ensuring accuracy in complex cases is another key hurdle.

Conservative legal firms may also hesitate to adopt new technologies. Building trust in AI systems—especially regarding confidentiality and data privacy—will take time.
