# Lassiez-Faire vs Control > Elections Test You **Published by:** [Points And Figures](https://paragraph.com/@pointsnfigures1/) **Published on:** 2026-03-16 **URL:** https://paragraph.com/@pointsnfigures1/lassiez-faire-vs-control ## Content As a first-time candidate, you learn a lot. On the campaign trail, I am meeting first-time candidates for all kinds of offices. Some are running for Congress. Some are running for county office. Some are running for the school board. One thing that occurred to me when I was chatting with one of them was this. I have been in situations some people would consider extremely risky. You’d put a bunch of money into the first round of a startup with no guarantee that anything would come of it. Or, you’d be trading and have a gigantic position when some unexpected shock hits the market, and you have to adjust and make quick decisions. I never felt the stress in those situations. You felt you had some control because you could influence the outcome. Even with a startup, you could add value with your network somehow. Sometimes with a startup, it was as simple as asking the right questions or reframing a situation so the entrepreneur could get through it. One of the real assets that I had as an investor was the fact that I heavily and rigorously controlled all the decisions I made before committing money. Once I was committed, I could manage the position a bit, but the real outcome was up to the market or the business. The campaign for office is very different. First, there is an exact time when it ends. For sure in November. Maybe in the primary. Right now, we are doing very, very well. Around the entire state, feedback has been extremely good, and people are rejecting the other candidate. They aren’t buying the dog food he is selling. It turns out integrity and honesty matter a lot for a position where you are a steward of taxpayer dollars. So does actual professional experience. People are sick of talkers. More on that someday. Early voting starts in my election for the Nevada State Treasurer starts on May 23, my 39th wedding anniversary, and finishes on June 9th. If you are in Nevada and registered as an independent, re-register as a Republican and vote for me. Governor Joe Lombardo has cited statistics at every single Lincoln Day Dinner around the state on voter turnout for midterms. It’s always lower for midterms. The key for 2026 is to decrease the historical delta. Having a great slate of candidates to turn out for helps, and the governor has pointed that out. But, turnout becomes the responsibility of the county chairpeople and precinct people. Nationwide, if you don’t want to see Trump impeached, you'd better turn out as you did in 2024. I see sentiment from some people who are unhappy with the Republican Congress. I understand that. The recent dance with the SAVE Act exemplifies it. But, imagine if they weren’t in charge, how much worse it would be? You’d be California, Virginia, Washington State, or Illinois. You can control a lot of things about campaigning. Your flyers, messages, and all that. The one thing that gives lots of candidates anxiety is the voting part. On that, you have no control whatsoever. ## Publication Information - [Points And Figures](https://paragraph.com/@pointsnfigures1/): Publication homepage - [All Posts](https://paragraph.com/@pointsnfigures1/): More posts from this publication - [RSS Feed](https://api.paragraph.com/blogs/rss/@pointsnfigures1): Subscribe to updates
