# The Manic Within Me

**The manic within me**

**a bejeweled pithy pity that pretties itself with mental confetti and touts crystal clarity**

**So it can destroy every notion**

**when the shadow comes knocking and the shutters start closing and it sticks its nose in**

**and the next thing you know**

**it’s prying up floorboards so it can expose**

**the blood and the bones** 

**while it rips off the skin but leaves on the clothes**

**as it spins the same record and says**

**welcome home**
