In the realms of blockchain, a fundamental clash emerges between the intrinsic impossibility of enforcing rules and laws and the attempt to align with existing human institutions which extensively rely on rules and laws. Similarly, efforts to integrate existing practices and institutions, such as governance and public goods, have faltered due to the inherently unenforceable nature of crypto protocols. Why is it so? The decentralized and permissionless nature of crypto creates an unstable and unpredictable dynamic interplay among social norms, markets, and architecture, fostering new behaviors that often defy traditional regulatory models. This resistance to law poses a challenge to the widespread adoption of pure crypto ideals, pushing towards a more limited-in-scope or hybrid applications as a pragmatic step forward.
