[Banana bacterial wilt](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Banana_Xanthomonas_wilt) (BBW) is a bacterial disease caused by [_Xanthomonas campestris_](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xanthomonas_campestris) pv. _musacearum_.[\[109\]](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Banana#cite_note-Tush04-109) After being originally identified on a close relative of bananas, [_Ensete ventricosum_](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ensete_ventricosum), in Ethiopia in the 1960s,[\[110\]](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Banana#cite_note-Brad68-110) BBW occurred in Uganda in 2001 affecting all banana cultivars. Since then BBW has been diagnosed in Central and East Africa including the banana growing regions of Rwanda, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Tanzania, Kenya, Burundi, and Uganda.
