# Back on Course **Published by:** [Ram](https://paragraph.com/@ram008/) **Published on:** 2023-07-24 **URL:** https://paragraph.com/@ram008/back-on-course ## Content Have said this a few times in my runner career which is far from illustrious. Having completed 9 full marathons, I am no douchebag either. But only 1/3 of these can I say that I have truly run strong. One of those was in Chicago and the other at Big Sur, the third at Sacramento, and maybe a fourth at San Francisco. But the other 5 have been gasps to the finish line or barely even a finish. Take the one in LA, which ended in Santa Monica, or the one which took me through a steep uphill finish at San Diego. Those were struggles, to put it mildly. Why? Lack of Discipline amongst other things and total lack of training required for a marathon. Take my best run to date, a half marathon in San Jose and a close second at Etten Leur, Netherlands and my backyard, Los Gatos. Each of those runs entailed some serious training consisting of months of speed training, hills training, and distances greater than race distance. Naturally, I was driven to prove a point in 2013-14 and I more than did. Since then, maybe like in my SJ race, I ran out too hard and lost fuel toward the end. So, I lost a bit of purpose since I had some great runs under my belt early on. All those good runs came within a 24-month period. Since then, it has been a struggle to get motivation, and keep up the discipline of hitting the asphalt before the sun colors the world yellow. But today, I saw a glimmer of my old self returning at sunset of the equinox day here in the northern hemisphere near the Tropic of Cancer. Will this hold? I hope writing about each of these runs will help me. Journaling has been a powerful catalyst, so here it begins. This time round, Nike Running Club seems great when paired with downloaded workouts in the Apple Watch and AirPods. Let us see if we can go the distance at CIM in less than 18 weeks. I want this to be a comeback. No better motivator than a comeback. ## Publication Information - [Ram](https://paragraph.com/@ram008/): Publication homepage - [All Posts](https://paragraph.com/@ram008/): More posts from this publication - [RSS Feed](https://api.paragraph.com/blogs/rss/@ram008): Subscribe to updates - [Twitter](https://twitter.com/r008): Follow on Twitter
