Neptune is a cold and inhospitable world about which we have selected for you all the most interesting and little-known facts.

1. Neptune is the eighth planet from the Sun and the most distant in the Solar System, and since it cannot be seen with the naked eye, this planet was discovered relatively recently only in 1846 with the help of mathematical calculations.

2. According to scientists, Neptune formed much closer to the Sun in the early stages of the history of the Solar System, and later, under the influence of gravitational forces, it moved away to its current position.

3. This gas giant rotates very quickly around its axis. A complete equatorial rotation takes only 18 hours.

Comparison of the size of the Earth and the planet Neptune

1. The planet's atmosphere consists of hydrogen and helium, and it also includes methane. Because methane gas absorbs red light, Neptune has a rich blue color.

2. Neptune has thin rings that consist of small particles of ice and dust.

3. On the surface of Neptune, the climate is very active and unstable. Crazy winds and unbelievably low temperatures reign here. In the upper layers of the atmosphere, the wind speed often exceeds 600 meters per second.

Triton and the Moon

1. Neptune has as many as 14 satellites, the most interesting of which is Triton, a frozen world on the surface of which icy nitrogen eruptions are constantly occurring. According to scientists, this is the coldest world in the Solar System.

2. In 1989, the Voyager 2 spacecraft transmitted the first photos of this blue giant to Earth.
